It doesn't even help the weaker students.. If one applies their real motive to the extreme, then one should just give everyone 100% for every subject they take for the HSC. Dumbing down doesn't make weaker students learn more.., it just makes everyone's mark high so everyone's happy. I guess...

yes and there are 9000+ who do 3 unit, less the 3000 or so in 4 U, that gives you 6000 doing 2U and 3U.. the total candidature of 2U is 19xxx, so it's not surprising that band 6s are taken by 3 U people

hmm 20 - 30 hours at home per week sounds about right.... minus some if you are talented and add a bit more if you are going after law at Usyd or UNSW. I think the best thing to do is to study as much as you can when you don't have other things to do.. unless you're an ultra popular party...
