Benefits of doing X2 english ?

I agree with alex.leon. Aside from subject choices, best units, ATARs, the subject's scaling and whoopa-ding-dong-aligning systems, I must stress that I've learnt a lot throughout the process of composing my major work. The area I chose to study has enabled me to learn more about other people...

    Big Day Out 2010

Wow, that really is good for them. I've spent hours waiting for confirmation emails from them in my time. :/ Generally speaking (except for the Ticketmaster hiccup, which turned out not to have been a hiccup) the ticket sales look to have run a lot smoother this year. The site didn't really...

    Big Day Out 2010

Re: BDO tickets Nevermind that part of the terms and conditions, BDO have responded and the tickets will be honoured. That message (above, posted by chamelia) was posted on the official Twitter and Facebook pages: Big Day Out (bdo_official) on Twitter BIG DAY OUT OFFICIAL Don't worry people...

    Big Day Out 2010

Ticketmaster weren't scheduled to start selling until 9am tomorrow, but for some reason or another they went up at 9pm tonight instead. Ticket sales closed at around 11pm. Some people were confused as to whether the tickets would be honoured. Big Day Out responded on their official Facebook...

Odd question from a Yr 11 student.

Not sure if this is true. The ammendments made for English Extension 2 suggest that 40 marks of your external come from the major work, and 10 from the reflection statement. From the Board of Studies Website: These changes are set to begin next term, for the 2010 HSC. The updated marking...

    Young Writer's Showcase notification??

    2008 or 2009? I didn't think '08 was even out yet. :/

    Young Writer's Showcase notification??

    Closing time

I'm guessing he means UAC? If that's the case, this is what it says on the UAC website:

    Ideal phone for university students

Wow Namu, I just checked out the Nokia N900 and I already want one (even though it's not out yet)... Looks like it'll be expensive though... I generally haven't been a fan of most touchscreen phones because of the lack of a keyboard. I can't stand 'typing' on a screen - it's not even something...

is ext2 right for me? - year 11 student

I agree with imsopostmodern and ashie0. If you're interested in putting work toward an extended composition, I say go for it. Keep in mind though that, at times, this course can be VERY stressful due to the independent nature of the course and (often) small class numbers (which decreases the...

    How to Quote Shakespeare?

Memorising act / scene numbers to put next to your quotes is all well and good until you're actually sitting there in the exam trying to write a 10-page essay in 40 minutes.. I.e. the exam markers recognise that regurgitating act and scene numbers is impractical during the exam and doesn't...

Can anybody upload CSSA Trial 09?

I know there's already discussion about the paper, but it's pretty dead and as yet nobody's uploaded the paper as far as I can see. Could anybody upload it? Our teacher gave it to us to do as a practice and marked it, but after giving us a period to look over it in class he refuses to give...

    Young Writer's Showcase notification??

YWS '08 isn't even out yet. Last year the nominations came out later than usual as well. Who knows when they will this year.

    CSSA Ancient History Trials

Thanks for the clarification, that's good to hear. I was beginning to worry about the sheer amount of quotes I'd have to have memorised if I could in any way adequately cover the syllabus. This takes a huge pressure off because I'm already somewhat familiar with the arguments of various writers...

    CSSA Ancient History Trials

Triangulum / PwarYuex, thanks for the clarification. My teacher has suggested that quotes are better than paraphrasing, but he's never been an Ancient HSC marker or anything so I guess he could very possibly be mistaken. So, for example, simply naming an historian and stating their stance on a...

    Bright students 'betrayed' by HSC

Lol. George Cooney. I did a double-take when I read that. I agree with this. No idea how they could make the system better though, short of examining every person's life progress to judge individual potential. :/

How long do you spend on essays?

Write one in a time limit (around 40 minutes, that's all you'll have in an exam. try an hour or a bit longer if you don't feel up to that yet... but have a DEFINITE limit to keep yourself under pressure to write.) Then get your teacher to mark it and give specific feedback to work on the things...

    CSSA Ancient History Trials

Completely agree. The content for this subject far outweighs that of any of my other subjects. Not to mention the necessity for direct quotes, evidence and such for each syllabus point which is unnecessary in stuff like the sciences, etc.

    Essay Writing Skills?

Lol, it was hard enough for me to write it as it was, let alone even thinking about taking out more grammar.
