    Transfer to a different uni

Well, looking at the selection ranks for ACU and WSU - biomedical science has a selection rank of 60.95 (ACU) and medical science has a selection rank of 71.90 (WSU). Though this should not make a difference in transferring in my opinion if you perform well compared to your cohort. In my...

    Transfer to a different uni

As far as I know for UNSW, transfers are based on WAM (Weighted Average Mark)/GPA (Grade Point Average) which should generally be 65-75+ (WAM - not sure about GPA) for most external transfers. Your previous university may be a factor in transferring, I'm not too sure, but maintaining a high WAM...

    JRAHS 2020 question

Alright, I guess I'll have a crack at it. Perpendicular should immediately scream "dot product" at you. Dot product vectors CD and BE which would then equal zero. So, CD.BE=0, (AD-AC).(AE-AB)=0 -> expand this Make AD.AE the subject so AD.AE=AB.AD+AC.AE-AC.AB Since AB || AD, and AC || AE dot...

    JRAHS 2020 question

Did you mean to post that physics gravity question as an attachment? What was the answer to (ii), just so I can double check my answer.

Is it possible to get 95+ in Maths Ext 1 & 2 without tutoring?

I went to private tutoring after having learnt the content. In my opinion, it is quite easy to learn content for 3U and 4U - plus you have your formula sheet - the real challenge is applying your content to questions. My private tutor gave me tailored practice trial questions and went through...

Is it possible to get 95+ in Maths Ext 1 & 2 without tutoring?

It can be manageable, but I think doing different topics in tutoring vs school really depends on the individual and school. My school taught maths quite well, so tutoring for me was a way to get a "head start" on content, plus I had the time, despite spending over 5 hours of tutoring (plus...

Is it possible to get 95+ in Maths Ext 1 & 2 without tutoring?

Private tutoring is another viable option. Good private tutors will know what topics you need help in and can select questions accordingly, whereas tutoring colleges run through all of the content (tutoring colleges which boast state ranks will run through the content - James Ruse style). It...

    Advice on teacher's marking (CAFS)!

I don't think many people on this site actually do CAFS, so it's unlikely we can comment specifically on your thread. I haven't done CAFS myself, but I'll give some general advice so at least you have something to go off. But I can already tell it's a highly subjective subject, much like...

General technique for AM/GM proofs and show questions

In many 4U exam papers I have come across, there will usually be a question that goes like: Prove \sqrt{2xy}\geq x+y Keep in mind the question might ask for something that looks different (but in essence is the same) such as: Prove x^2+y^2\geq2xy Both proofs I would recommend a "backwards...

( Please Help! ) with high school classes for university and atar

Really depends on what you like. Subjects you like will be subjects you will do well at. Have you tried looking at textbooks/HSC papers on legal studies and biology? You should have a good indication of which one you prefer.

    Tutoring for Year 11 Chemistry

Zhangs HSC Coaching offers Chemistry tutoring from their Strathfield and Chatswood branches. ACE has good Chemistry programs though they can get very pricey - I’m pretty sure you could get a private tutor for less! I’ve heard some math centres offer Chemistry tutoring as well - Dr Du Chemistry...

How to bounce back from terrible Maths ext 2 mark

That is indeed true. Trials will certainly have a weighting of 30-40% so if you are stronger in other topics you may increase your internal marks and boost your rank. Plus a half-yearly exam or something of the sort. In my opinion, getting low marks in your first assessment will present more...

    help with my subjects please!

I would also like to add that ATAR calculators can be useful in “reverse engineering” your marks. But scaling changes year to year so don’t look too much into it!

    help with my subjects please!

First off, which university do you plan on attending? If you plan on getting into UNSW - you will need to do the LAT (Law Admissions Test) unless you are a Gateway applicant. Secondly, it is definitely possible to get a 96 ATAR+. But keep in mind scaling is rendered useless if you perform badly...

How do I find a vector that is perpendicular to 2 other vectors in 3d?

It was taught alongside the trapezoidal rule so it may have been a 2U thing - it was definitely taught in their 3U classes though. Still not a justification to be teaching that in my opinion.

How do I find a vector that is perpendicular to 2 other vectors in 3d?

I also recall Dr Du teaching Simpson's method for 3U, even though it was explicitly removed from the syllabus and formula sheet. I guess some tutoring centres like to go "outside the syllabus" as if that's a way to boost student marks.

How do I find a vector that is perpendicular to 2 other vectors in 3d?

For Dr Du homework, it's almost always expected to use cross products. "Normal" (syllabus approved) vector methods would take too long. For a school/HSC exam, I would let a vector, say v1, be (x1, y2, z3) and the others along the same lines. I would then use the dot product (which equals 0 for...

How do I find a vector that is perpendicular to 2 other vectors in 3d?

That's true. It's kind of stupid by the 4U syllabus writers not to include the cross product - the scope of Vectors questions are severely limited. Plus when dealing with perpendicularity you'll often have to take a longer route to get to the answer. I remember an eventful Dr Du lesson where we...
