    Q's for the Gals

My question: How many units do you do?

    Stronger acid

No, he's wrong. HCl is stronger. The first ionisation of H2SO4 is strong, and the 2nd is weak. HCl has only got 1 ionisation, and it is strong, so overall HCl is stronger. But in the same conc. and volume of acids, H2SO4 would have more H+ ions. I doubt they'd give you a question on this...

could i teach myself 4unit from the textbook?

Yeah, you can try. I read my friend's 4u notes on complex numbers just for fun, and I understood them (I do 3u) The further you get ahead of everyone in the HSC, the better. It's best to finish the course early, and leave plenty of time for revision.

    chem or bio?

Depends how good you are at each. If only a little better in bio, then keep chem. If you're doing quite well in each, then drop music. Music has the lowest scaling of all.

Please help, mole and mass produced question.

Unless it specifically says Copper (I), you must always assume it is Copper (II). That goes for most, not all, transition metals as well.

    2005 HSC Chemistry question :p

It's actually quite a typical calculation question for such value of marks.

How did everyone go in the chem competition?

I think it's the one by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute.

    2005 HSC Chemistry question :p

Best way to do these are to do it backwards from the information they gave. HCl + NaOH --> NaCl + H2O So the number of moles of NaOH that reacted to neutralise the HCl would be: 0.1 x 0.0142 = 1.42x10-3 mol Therefore 1.42x10-3 mol of HCl was excess Initially, 0.025 x 0.6 = 0.015 mol was...

    Maths Question???

    It's called rationalising. You should've done this in year 10... No offense, but this is very basic stuff =O basic knowledge expected out of a 3u student. Times top and bottom by (3-√2). 3+ √2 - 1/(3 + √2) = 3 + √2 - 1(3-√2)/(3+√2)(3-√2) = 3 + √2 - (3-√2)/(3-2) = 3 + √2 - 3 + √2 = 2√2

    Tiiiiiittttttttrrraaaattttttttiiiiioooooonnnnnssss sssss!!!!!!!!

Re: Tiiiiiittttttttrrraaaattttttttiiiiioooooonnnnnssss sssss!!!!!!!! Basically you gotta write the equation for the neutralisation reaction, then balance it. Then calculate the moles of the standardised volume of acid/base you used. Then according to the molar ratio of the equation...

Atmosphere: Air- Nitrogen, oxygen, argon (those are the majorities, some other gases are present) Biosphere: Blood- Iron, carbon, oxygen, nitrogen etc... Lithosphere: Rock- silicon, CaCO3, etc... Hydrosphere: Ocean- NaCl, KCl, CaCO3, etc...

    what year 12 subject

Let's see... Year 11: Adv eng, 3u maths, physics, chemistry, biology, economics Year 12: Adv eng, 3u maths, physics, chemistry, biology. Adv eng got shittier, 3u maths became more interesting, but also introduces you to some shit boring/hard topics, physics becomes shit boring, especially...

You Can Escape a black hole!!

What the shit, you're forgetting mass dilation... Also, you're only an HSC physics student. There are many things that you've yet to learn about. In other words, your 'physics knowledge' is insuffice to pose a question to the deeper levels of 'real physics'. What makes you think that out of...

    Displacement reactions

The metal displaced the metallic ions in the solution, I guess. You can tell which metal "became solution" (technically called oxidation) by comparing the standard electrode potentials of the two specimen. The higher value of the two when acting as a reductant (losing electrons) is the metal...

    How do you tell her?

If her parents aren't UBER UBER strict, have her tell them that it's a "formal partner", not a "date". Have her say stuff like "but it'll be fun! I've never been to the formal before, and I want to see how it's like" And....15/17 isn't bad............. ...As long as you don't sleep with her.

    Bonding

Number each red part with numbers. 1/2: It's not about having more or less electrons. In a covalent bond, the two elements still share the electrons, regardless of electronegativity. It's true that the more elctronegative element will pull the electron towards its own nucleus more (and hence...

    Failing year 11?

Repeating doesn't happen in Australia. But if you're failing so badly in 2u, I suggest you do General Mathematics. It would be more beneficial to your HSC, and will maximise your UAI.
