Year 11 and 12 students, HOW DO YOU DO IT?

@ OP: If English is that bad for you, please don't do English (Extension 2) for your HSC. You'll regret it, I swear. Also, consider dropping English (Extension 1). :)

    Mathematics dilemma...

That's rather harsh, for all you know he could be trying very hard. And 'try harder' isn't necessarily the answer. Learning in Mathematics is progressive. That is, what you learn builds on what you have learnt in Years 7 - 10. If you didn't understand concepts studied in Year 10, then it is...

I've decided I'm going to give Advanced English a go. I'm actually starting to enjoy Tess of the D'Urbervilles, much to my surprise. I'll drop to Standard English at the beginning of Year 12 (term 4, 2010) if Advanced English is too dull. I've also decided to give Biology a go. Once again, if I...

Marks required for a 90+ ATAR with my subjects

Why was choosing English Standard the worst decision ever for you? EDIT: I don't enjoy English as much as you seem to think. To be honest, I think a lot of what you learn in English is total rubbish. Analysing poems and texts for example. It just is not true that "the repetition of...

I chose English Standard because English Extension clashed with Hospitality. English Advanced never really interested me, I was just willing to get the privilege of studying English Extension. Also, the texts studied in English Standard are more appealing to me than those studied in Advanced. :)

Marks required for a 90+ ATAR with my subjects

I did want to take English (Extension 2) in Year 12, but English Extension clashed with Hospitality, and I did not want to miss the opportunity to study cooking, which I love. English (Advanced) never really interested me, I was just willing to take it so I was able to do English Extension...

Marks required for a 90+ ATAR with my subjects

Hello all, Could you please tell me the marks required in each of my subjects for an ATAR of 90? I go to a school ranked 195th. English (Standard) Hospitality (Kitchen Operations) Italian Continuers PD/H/PE Senior Science Studies of Religion II I think either Italian or SOR II won't count...

Students Against Scaling - Post Here!

Those who post in threads without out reading my original posters messages embedded in pages 1-5, consider this: 1) The BOS will pay attention to anyone who contacts them via phone, kicks up their feet and makes a fuss about serious mistreatment of student marks (they have to... it's the law...

Which subject is more "prestigious" - English Extension 2 or Mathematics Extension 2?

Re: Which subject is more "prestigious" - English Extension 2 or Mathematics Extensio "anyone with a basic skill in english could put together a 4u english major work if they worked hard enough at it and get a decent mark. for maths though, a certain skill is required" CLAIRE: 1)...

    Choosing Year 11 subjects

You have to do 12 UNITS buddy. 11 UNITS is what Biology without Business Studies or another sub would give you. So, the answer's clear: pick both.

    ATAR Estimate Please

I would estimate you 2009 ATAR to be approximately equal to 96.40, that is, if you continue to sustain your current ranks and carry those excellent marks through to the HSC exams, achieving high, that is, >80%, you will achieve most likely an ATAR of either exactly 96.00 or higher. If you...

James.Cos - that personal attack was unnecessary. I am very capable of achieving an admirable ATAR, unless I'm just some retard whose whole life is a halucination, and all of the good marks I got did not actually exist. Maybe I'm just a brain in a vat of life-preserving fluid, hm? I will not...

Students Against Scaling - Post Here!

Yes, but moderation is still unfair CEM. Tell me how it isn't. The School-based Assessment mark a student receives in any NSW HSC subject is equal to the mark achieved in the HSC external assessment or exam that matches their rank. E.g. Student A achieves a School-based Assessment Mark of...

Students Against Scaling - Post Here!

Yes, I did know that. Mathematics is not always objective. It can be manipulated to achieve certain results, naturally. You do not know how the UAC scales subjects. You know they use an algorithm but you don't know what the algorithm is or what is looks like, unless you work or have worked from...

Students Against Scaling - Post Here!

With no aligning or moderating, the simple solution to the problem of schools potentially creating easy assessment tasks is to set 5 assessment tasks per subject per year for the HSC (from Term 4 of Prelim - Term 3 of HSC). Simple, easy, why did you not realise that? The trial would be and...

NSW to dump UAI! New Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR)

Re: NSW to dump UAI! No, it's not just you. That happened to me too. It is probably a mistake the OP made, maybe a copy/paste mistake or a simple attempt at annoying people by giving a totally irrelevant link a different name?

NO, it is NOT scaling. Call it 'linear scaling' if you like but it is completely different to the current scaling system (albeit, I admit there are some accidental similarities which need not be rectified... ask me about it if you like) because students are aware of a CAP. Their mark will not...

Don't be so quick to criticise. Have any of you read the article about the UAI being dumped for HSC students from the 2010 HSC year (I doubt it will get through this year despite speculation to the contrary)? The new system will be similar, it is called the ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission...
