Can parents refrain from bringing their children to the store if they are wearing those squeaking shoes? Seriously, I can almost hear your kid moving through the store and that's competitng against the checkout beeps, talking, in store radio and noisy produce refridgerators. Seriously, it's...

    The Woolworths Thread

I haven't seen much of WoWTV lately because regardless of the time of day, it's always on the standby cube. Also, reception has been consistently poor, even when it's perfectly clear outside. I was going to point out to my store manager that the reason why people tune into the local stations is...

    The 'After School Hangover'

One of things I missed about year 12 was that to me, I was at my peak. Actually being popular, doing stuff like footy. Admittedly my grades weren't reflective of me as I could do it, but I was socialising etc. Though uni is starting to pick up from where High School left off. Probably becauce I...

Unless there is a potential conflict of interest such as working at a rival company, you have to tell them. If your rosters are coming into conflict, try to work an agreement with your new employer first. Other than that, simply go along the lines of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". I recently got a...

On the topic of University Transfers...

I found out today UNSW has an exclusion policy for undergraduate transfers. The reason for the delay is that way back in August when I applied for UNSW, I was under review as I failed 2/4 classes. I was excluded for about 12 hours. After that I applied through UAC and filled in the online work...

    The Woolworths Thread

In regards to store layouts, are all Woolworths stores supposed to have the produce section incorporate the deli and bakery section and go lengthways? I notice that in the footage of stores interstate and all but the one I work at, the produce section has the deli and bakery together and it's...

    The Woolworths Thread

Our Head HR staff member (not the area manager, the one below) informed front end that at least one express lane must be open from open to close. But when she leaves for the day, the supervisors get the staff off there. Also, is there a rule where a big register must remain open at all times...

    Rules for Customers

Parents should never use self serves when they have their children. Seriously, I'm sick of having to clear a screen because your kids were climbing over the thing. If it's that stressful, go through a regular checkout so your kids can't use the SSCs as jungle gym equipment.

    The Woolworths Thread

I've noticed that during the morning session of trade, arriving staff go on even numbered registers and the afternoon crew (Who typically do 4-8) get posted on odd numbers. Not always the same, but 90% of the time it's the case.

Semester 2 Sexams: When do you finish?

Well my dreaded exam is today. I'm hoping by February next year I'll be interstate...preferably at UNSW.

Yes! For the love of god STOP SAYING THAT! WAIT UNTIL AFTER AFTER AFTER I scan the item. Though, it never ceases to amaze me that a certain number of customers fail basic maths and start whinging about multibuy deductions and I have to explain that they have to reach a certain number of items...

Semester 2 Sexams: When do you finish?

Just found out I do my marketing on Thursday, giving me 24 hours extra to finish up assignments and study, but at the same time, another 24 hours of the subject. Words can't express how much I hate the subject.

Using this example will clear things up. A cutomer's bill reaches $234.95 and wants to pay $320.50 cash. Virtually everyone I know goes Enter > Cash > Sees preset amount (ie. $235.00 $250.00 $300.00 $350.00). Obviously the customer's amount isn't listed so they select Key Amount > 320.50. What...

at one stage during my three year appointment, our CSM banned people from moving to different registers because every checkout operator (myself included) kept on having massive shortages. I've found entering the amount manually for cash (type 23495 to get $234.95) rather than using the preset...

EFTPOS failures usually show how dependant some people are on cards. A power surge meant that EFTPOS was down from Thursday through to Saturday morning and we were trying to get as many people to use cash...but some really had an objection to using cash despite functional ATMs several metres away.

You can try different departments but you are limited in which ones are school hour friendly. This is what I have observed at my store. Groceries and perishables generally operate between store open and 5pm. Meat Unit starts before dawn and finishes at 5. Bakery starts usually an hour before...

Work tried to guilt trip me into staying back "for a little longer" but because I have exams and assignments myself, it was easier to say no. I later found out that "a little longer" was getting someone to do a close shift to 11, so "a little longer" meant "a full eight hour shift".

Most of our staff do the right thing and show bags and check seals upon leaving. We are not supposed to have wallets and phones on us and be placed in a locker, though if you don't make it obvious, no one bats an eyelid. Though a 2IC in training (Our store is used as training for all staff...
