!!!!urgent help needed on moving schools

Nah I meant public schools in Queensland.

!!!!urgent help needed on moving schools

Yeah that's definitely a competitive school, but NSW seems extremely competitive. Even though its a public school, there are still a few students concerned about their academics. I guess in any selective school, the students know that 'dodgy behaviour' will not be tolerated so they aren't going...

!!!!urgent help needed on moving schools

It seems like a fair system from what you have described. So what's the deal with public schools? Are these regarded as substandard?

!!!!urgent help needed on moving schools

That is still quite a lot of students for only 4000 positions. What is with NSW? Year 4? These students are still kids and they are being forced into the education system with such a competitive nature. Do you go to one of these schools?

!!!!urgent help needed on moving schools

That's even more intense than I imagined. So its like an ingrained culture I guess, beginning for some year 6 students. If more than 10000 are applying, how many of these people actually get selected?

    Translink App

Sorry for the late reply, but are you new to QLD? I know this is a NSW-based forum, just assuming. Hope you have found your way around the city okay :) Translink is the app that we use for public transport here. It does have the 'journey planner' option, but yeah, sometimes it doesn't update. I...

!!!!urgent help needed on moving schools

Interesting. I mean at least they have a reason to flaunt their schools. It does go on here too. Especially some of the private and selective schools. Students think that just by going to a private school, they are special in some way. Well, when we're in uni, what high school you went to...

!!!!urgent help needed on moving schools

I guess that's true to an extent about QLD being calmer but people here can still get edgy during exam time. Compared to other states, they definitely have more competitive universities. However, if you're a student looking to stay and study in the state, entry into UQ is quite competitive...

    chemistry or physics

Yeah, that's true. Since it is the first year, there are no references or comparable scores. Our ATAR is calculated from our achievements in the final 2 units - unit 3 and 4.

    chemistry or physics

Yes, I heard about the bomb hoaxes in NSW and Victoria too. So in QLD, we study subjects based on units and within these units there are topics. Each subject has "4 units" that we take over year 11 and 12. "Unit 1" and "Unit 2" or "unit 1 and 2" is studied in year 11 and "unit 3" and "unit 4" or...

!!!!urgent help needed on moving schools

Wow! Hi everyone, I'm from QLD. Does all this stuff really go on in all these private or selective or grammar schools in NSW? I go to an ordinary public school in Redlands which is about 30 mins from the Brisbane CBD and I have had a wonderful experience at my school. Please explain more...

    chemistry or physics

I'm not familiar with this subject, but I had a quick look at the syllabus and it does seem similar to this subject. I hope your year 11 and 12 studies go well! :)

    chemistry or physics

Thank you for agreeing! Well with the whole COVID-19 situation, we had to also do the online learning for a few weeks in term 2 I think it was - this year has gone by so quickly! But after that, we were back to face to face learning quite early considering some of the other states weren't as...

    chemistry or physics

Oh that's unfortunate! Yeah it actually wasn't a subject in QLD either until we converted from OP to ATAR last year, so it's relatively new in QLD as well. It's a very unique and interesting subject. Year 11 includes topics like physiology of the brain and nervous systems, emotion & motivation...

    Recommended biology textbooks

Hi, I am studying Bio in Qld and at my school, there is an actual specific Oxford textbook for this subject. I have heard about the Pearson ones too. If you want a general introduction about Biology, please use what other people have suggested but if you're more interested in understanding...

    chemistry or physics

Hi sami90210, Good question. I am currently a year 11 student studying in QLD and my subjects are English, Methods, Bio, Chem and Psych. I would also like to study medicine as well :) I faced this dilemma before deciding on my subjects too. At our school, our teachers tell us to choose our...

Who feels that the Prefect elections are popularity contests, to an extent?

Hi everyone, I definitely agree that school captain is a popularity contest. I go to a QLD school and we recently had our 2021 School Captain election. Originally there were 13 applicants, including myself. However, at the interview stage, this changed to 11. All 11 of us were successful and...
