Don't have much feedback on getting band 6's - but, for structure, I'd suggest showing your essays to different teachers, and ASKING for feedback on structure, etc. If they can't do that, they should be fired. And, to answer your OP, I am VERY sure it is possible to get a band 5 in HSC...

IMO Modern History is a really good subject. We were doing the russian revolution and JFK which was really interesting. Buttt, if you don't like the subject or your teacher I'd think about dropping it.

These teachers are more concerned with *High School* education. They place in higher priority your current education than a number which lets you go to other courses. However, some are pretty ignorant, and did the Dip.Ed BECAUSE they didn't understand scaling enough to get into other courses :P

I think that for some subjects it counts for 30% of your HSC marks (the content is 30% from the prelim). Mainly its just the study habits and knowledge you built up in the prelim. Its a "practice year for HSC"
