    BoS Maths Trials 2019

Yeah well it is pretty much an application of that, which is how they are able to ask questions on it in the hsc. Its more we weren't specifically told: \frac{d}{dx} f^{-1}\left(x\right) = \frac{1}{f^{'}\left(f^{-1}\left(x\right)\right)} Oh well, its not hard to derive anyway lol.

    BoS Maths Trials 2019

Well damn, we skipped completely over that in class haha. Still not too difficult to derive luckily, and is a fairly basic concept of inverse functions.

What raw marks in extension 2 generally correspond to state ranks?

I'm still not sure what the average or highest mark is, but I just sat the paper personally today under timed conditions (Don't have the solutions, but I was going off the exam report). If I was to guess, I would say the average was in the 50s, with the E4 cutoff being in the 70s somewhere (out...

    BoS Maths Trials 2019

I'm pretty sure its not in the syllabus. There have been hsc questions on it before, but I definitely haven't learned it in class either

What raw marks in extension 2 generally correspond to state ranks?

If you mean the ones where you get the t- series representation of the trig finctions and manipulating them to show that: e^{i\theta} = \cos \theta + \sin \theta I think that is a possible q15 or early q16, but I doubt it will be the final question (I could be wrong though). A probability...

What raw marks in extension 2 generally correspond to state ranks?

I would like it if they did, those non uniform circular motion qs are great

    BoS Maths Trials 2019

    I didn't sit the paper, but here is my solution (spoilers for anyone who wants to solve) \text{Let I} = \int_0^{1}\frac{\arctan{\sqrt{x}} + \arctan{x^2}}{1+x^2} dx \text{Consider:} J = \int_0^{1}\frac{\arctan{\sqrt{x}}}{1 + x^2} dx \text{ Let u =} \sqrt{x} du = \frac{1}{2\sqrt{x}} J =...

What raw marks in extension 2 generally correspond to state ranks?

Yeah lol I heard about that. Tbh the paper isn't that bad. It gets hard really early on like with that circle question in 3, which would be why the average is so low, but q8 isn't difficult at all. I'm not sure why its hyped up so much, years like 2000 and 1989 are harder. Is it certain no one...

What raw marks in extension 2 generally correspond to state ranks?

Not sure, but everyone says 1993 was super hard, and the average for that was like in the 40s out of 120, and imo 1995 is of similar difficulty to that, possibly a bit easier.

Just wanna say, that probability question after all the conic section stuff in q16 is super nice. Really cool paper overall.

    What was q16 this year?

    BoS Maths Trials 2019

I'm willing to bet you will chuck a hard circle geo X conics question in there somewhere, since they are both gone from the syllabus next year. I have a feeling q16 will involve a really difficult polynomials question, possibly similar to 2001 hsc q 7b, but a lot harder. I'd love to see...

    MX2 Marathon

Here you go, just wrote it up now. Know that there is likely an easier way of doing this, but my solution is the first way I saw, and does yield the correct answer.

    MX2 Marathon

Wait the one just posted or the one before that which I said was \sqrt{6}+\sqrt{2}? If you mean the former I haven't attempted it yet as I've been studying for english lol. If you mean the latter I can write up a solution on paper a bit later and scan it. Its pretty much the exact same process...

Does anyone have copies of trial papers from this year?

Unfortunately have lol, till 1989. Oh well, just waiting for more people to share theirs at this point

Does anyone have copies of trial papers from this year?

Yeah unfortunately for 4u they only have papers up to 2015, except for cssa, which I've already done the 2019 paper for. Really good site though.

Does anyone have copies of trial papers from this year?

Hsc papers are 100% better. After you've done all of these however, you should start doing trial papers. For 2u, no particular school has the best trial papers tbh, so just do as many as you can to prepare. I made this thread looking for more trial papers because I've done most of the hsc...

Does anyone have copies of trial papers from this year?

Yeah I've always enjoyed maths, and put lots of time into it lol. I guess the state ranking thing also depends on how you feel on the day, and what questions are asked, as I'm sure stuff like the stupid geo question last year stopped a lot of potential state rankers from doing so. I'm personally...

Does anyone have copies of trial papers from this year?

Yeah the induction itself was quite easy, even easier than last years induction, which was a joke. Just thought the idea was more interesting than what you usually see in trial papers, even if its been asked before several times, which is how I felt about most of the paper. I feel like a bit of...

Does anyone have copies of trial papers from this year?

Was quite a joke imo. The very last question was sort of interesting, requiring you to break up a result by partial fraction decomposition which in turn became a telescoping sum. Took me a bit to see the partial fraction decomp. Everything else was really standard though. Independent as opposed...
