    Scaling

It’s not a number you should really worry about. Behind the scenes, NESA gives you a total out of 500 then they assign the ATARs from there. 400 total does not mean you’ll get an 80 ATAR, it’s more like 95+ - there’s some more calculations behind there that you don’t need to worry about.

Should I drop from English Advanced to Standard?

Ok so it seems like you school is very similar to the aforementioned school so the standard/advanced dichotomy is very different to a regular school (where the standard English class might be a bit unmotivated and a mess tbh). Rather, you’ll probably encounter more support in standard etc. I...

Should I drop from English Advanced to Standard?

Do you go to a school on a farm starting with H?

    How HSC Markers, Mark Essays

They get paid per script (paper) so they’re not going to take the time to read something thoroughly. That being said, as they mark so many papers from across the spectrum, they would have a very good gauge of what mark your essay deserves from a quick glance. Shit and indecipherable handwriting...
  5. Q

Will English Standard pull my ATAR down?

Aim for the 80s and it’s achievable. Note that getting 80s in school does not indicate that you’ll be getting 80s in the HSC. Complex process but basically your HSC paper needs to be the same quality and display the same competence as someone getting 80 in advanced.

Suggestions For Related Text - Common Mod: Text and Human Experience

Metropolis (Fritz Lang) used to be paired with 1984 in the old syllabus but tbh it’s best if you do a poem or something lol

    I think I screwed up..

I need to get on with more computing to get into “data science” but that seems to be the trend these days. Decent prospects with economics (if you pair it with something good) but it’s definitely not a shoo in to get to the RBA.
  8. Q

    I think I screwed up..

I don’t think it pays insane especially nowadays where there’s a truckloads of grads.
  9. Q

    I think I screwed up..

I’m not doing econometrics. If you want to learn statistics properly, do stats lol (which is what I do). Tbh the economics half (well, less than half) of my degree is just for interest and gives a fresh perspective - it’s also good not to stare at numbers and symbols all day. RBA you’ll need...
  10. Q

    I think I screwed up..

Not as high as it mythically seems. Most transitioning out just don’t like it and prefer to go down a more flexible track.
  11. Q

    I think I screwed up..

Also remember that you aren't an idiot if you don't/can't become a doctor. It's nice to aim for it if it's your passion, but don't be too disheartened if you don't manage to get in even if you try, since it's the most competitive degree out there, and most people who apply won't get in. As long...

    Uni maths textbooks/resources?

never heard of them being referred to as that lol imo they are kinda inaccessible and confusing, so for a decent intro into the unfamiliar territory of uni maths is 31 bluebrown's series on linear algebra. if you're not intending on being a math major you don't really need to give a shit about...
  13. Q

    On track for 99?

yes (i should've been able to figure that out from the number of b6's lol)
  14. Q

    Uni maths textbooks/resources?

    hardmode: rudin analysis
  15. Q

    On track for 99?

    school rank?
  16. Q

Is it too much to ask for a job/career in arts, social science etc etc that pays good, has very good job growth and highly satisfying?

Maths (and to a lesser extent) science teachers are in demand. Not so much for English and history etc
  17. Q

If you aren't ranked internally first but you get the highest raw HSC mark, will you be scaled less than the person in first?

TLDR you don’t really “swap” ranks, rather, NESA take the top and bottom external HSC marks and use their algorithm to fit everyone in between, accounting for the relative spaces. Moderation is about the fairest system you can get.
  18. Q

If you aren't ranked internally first but you get the highest raw HSC mark, will you be scaled less than the person in first?

Scaling is applied AFTER all the moderation processes have occurred. They can’t “dial down” the scaling for some and not others.
