I think that sign should be .

This is true because for fixed with , each is nonzero and has the same sign (since ).

So

We have shown that P does not vanish in the sector, which is equivalent to the claim. (It is also trivial that P(0) is nonzero).

Nice proof by contradiction. and the conclusion can be a tiny bit stronger: the inequality sign can be strictly greater than. lol

I thought this one was a good one.

A function f(x) is continuous for x>0, and (x-1)f(x) is differentiable for x>0 and its derivative is 1/x. Find f(x) for x>0

I already posted a HSC method for it, and I know of one other HSC method for it too.

A group of 10 married couples is getting ready for an excursion in small boats; in particular, they have to split into five groups of four persons each. In how many of these cases will there be two men X and Y each on the same boat with his wife (assuming each boat contains 2 men and 2 women)?

hold on first, coz i am not sure i understood the question correctly: does the question mean that X, his wife, Y and his wife all four people in the same boat? or X and his wife in one same boat and Y and his wife in the other same boat?

yep both cases. i.e. Case 1. X and Wife and Y and Wife all in the same boat. Case 2: X and Wife in one boat. Y and wife in another boat
