I am currently undergoing subject selection in my preliminary year to finalize my choices for the 2015 HSC. Due to my current subject selections and passions i have ruled out many faculties offering undergraduate courses in university (Sciences, Arts, Medicine). Due to my location in suburban Sydney, i am currently looking at applying for any of the big 4 (UNSW, Usyd, UTS, Maquarie). I have forever yearned for a degree in business, but specifically i am not sure (probably marketing or management) and as a result i am currently looking into courses in each universities respective business or commerce faculty. However here in lies the problem, i am currently struggling with my 2U Mathematics course and feel it best to drop to the easier General Maths course which i know through application, i can achieve well in (most likely a band 6). My school ranked in the top 20 in 2013 and my personal rankings within my courses thus far are roughly in the top 25% (eg: 20/80 across the board), with a rank of 1 in business studies.
My question is: With an ATAR in the low 90's (a goal i think is achievable) and General Maths, is it possible to bear the course load of business or commerce degrees at UNSW or Usyd or is it really necessary to have the 2U Mathematics? Although there are no required knowledge or pre-requisites for the bulk of these business faculty courses, the assumed knowledge is Mathematics, so is the 2U Mathematics (mainly calculus) really crucial, or is it a viable thought that General Maths paired with a passion and understanding of business is enough?
