I guess you could be of the view that atheism is a religion, though I don't see how saying so is meant to be an insult. It's not. The rules given to muslims to follow, is an ultimate symbol to see how much an individual actually acknowledges the might of god. The more you acknowledge gods superiority and respect the more you will listen, its just like following your parents rules. Thats how they see that...

Abrahamic Religions are similar in some ways, but completely different in others. Some may say islam is barbaric, but this so called 'barbaric' nature, which at the time was considered normal is clearly evident in each abrahamic religion. Such as marriage with those under 10. I can get clear jewish and biblical references to it. Or you can just use your fingers and google it.

Thats not the point. The point is if you find the ethical issues within a religion how you wish to live your life then follow it.

And yes, like any other religion if you dont follow gods rules, ie accept in gods power, etc etc, you will be punished by HIM AND ONLY HIM. in islam god clearly states only god can take life, unless someone attempts to steal your land, or attempt to kill you or those close to you.
