Re: Israel & Palestine

It appears one of us has mistaken the definition of Zionism. Zionism is not the foundation and maintenance of a Jewish state in conjuction with Palestine, but rather the foundation of a Jewish state in Palestine. That is to say that the inhabitants of Palestine would have to be removed either forcibly or of their own free will to accomodate for the Jewish settlement of the land.

If actively supporting a two state settlement based on the pre-1967 UN borders makes you a zionist, then I'm a zionist. The UN are zionists. The World Court are zionists. The PLC and Yasser Arafat were zionists, etc.

However supporting a two-state solution based on the 1948 partition plan is not zionism. That is being in accordance with international law and resolution 242 of the UN. Zionism is in the belief of the historic or biblical land of Israel is promised to the Jews by god which is claimed extends as far as the Nile to the Euphrates (most of modern that Lebanon, Syria and parts of Egypt and Iraq included). Of course this position is utterly unsustainable considering the original Zionists were in fact atheists.
The definition of 'Zionism' if such a thing can indeed exist for such a dynamic term, could indeed be the above.

I'm glad you seem to understand what I'm getting at - 'Zionism' as a term has been absolutely butchered, by both sides - by the Israeli settlers who cite it as their ideology and by the pro-Palestinians who choose to use it as a term to describe the actions of Israel rather than the words "the Israeli Government." It really grinds my when people use phrases like "the evil Zionist regime" and "the Zionist state" in their posts >_<

Also, what you refer to in the latter part of your post is known as 'religious Zionism,' not the nationalistic Zionism which most sensible Jews in the world follow.

Hrmm, but can 'Zionism' be singled out to be the belief of a Jewish State in 'Palestine?' The first National Zionist Congress in the 1930's looked at other places like the Kimberley region in Australia and parts of Africa as places for possible Jewish homelands before they decided upon Palestine.

Sam4u is an Israeli sympathizer. He actually believes in a 2 state solution. Such line of thought can only be compared to kids believing in Santa clause....gullibility.

ABC TV: The Chaser's War on Everything

International humanitarian law prohibits [an] occupying power [from transferring] citizens from its own territory to the occupied territory (Fourth Geneva Convention, article 49)

Israel has a right to exist within the borders first decided by the U.N pre-1967.
The settlements are illegal.

People own the land that the settlements are expanding on, they're getting the ripped off here and you know it. For someone in the 'freedom crew' you don't seem to value property ownership rights too much.

Re: Israel & Palestine

yes it physically exists and yes it is fully recognised as a legitimate country by the west and the UN, the problem arises when peace is desired.
we wont wake up one morning and poof the palestinians and israelis love each other, woop dee doo koombaya. itll need long negotiations and sacrifices on both sides. here comes the need for the recognition of israel.
puting aside the fact that israel wont negotiate with terrorists or their organisations, generally a country cannot deal with any organisation that wont recognise it at all. if you look at the core as to why these organisations wont recognise israel its because they believe they have the right, and will ultimately reattain all the land. if israel is trying to make peace with these groups nothing will be accomplished because they have an all or nothing policy and dont believe the Jews should be on their land.

so simply the recognition of israels right to exist is the key to the start of peace negotiations...without this recognition israel is fighting a stubborn bunch of people and nothing will ever eventuate.

here here!!! good post, nice to see a very intelligent evaluation:)

Riet has it right:) and why do you value the U.N so much?? What about the many mistakes they made in Bosnia and Serbia? Such mistakes surely show they often make mistakes of judgement and rulings...

Fucking hell. Are you a complete twat? Why revive the Israeli topics if you support Israel? Will go the same way as all the others with the aid of Jeee and other fail trolls.

Fucking dweeb.

Here's an idea. An Israel thread that only Nebs, BBJ, moll., Riet and myself (cause I'm fucking rad) are allowed in. There's a good idea right there. Someone write that down again.

Re: Israel & Palestine

The other day, was doing my Eng Adv. paper and quoting Anwar Sadat (for those of you who don't know, he worked for peace between Arabs and Jews) and thinking how ironic it was that all his work was pretty much for nothing...

Hitler would be pretty fucking mad right now if he looked down from wherever he is and saw the Jews with their own independent state roflpwning all the Arabs.
