Its called Puppy Love.

All the simular feelings and emotions of being in love, but because its usually the first time they're/you're feeling these, its hightened and you think its something more.

My boyfriend & I have been together for 14 months, still going strong. His brother got together with a nice girl in year 11, they're now 22, married with their first baby, so there are the cute "happily ever after highschool sweethearts" couples out there, just some kids aren't mature enough to deal with a proper adult relationship.

the year my paternal grandmother died it was their 64th wedding anniversary

I know a girl whose parents met when they were 16. They're 48 now and still going strong.

But 'happily ever after' at 22 in todays society might lead to 'divorced and broke' at 25

I think teens can honestly love someone... its just a different maturity/level/stage of love, its all a learning process to discovering what ultimate love is.

I mean, we have to start learning how to do it and what it feels like at some stage.

Well, I guess you could say it's pure love because it doesn't come with the kind of baggage that older people bring into their relationships later in life.
I like this comment. Dispite my views on it being ' puppy love ' .. they're not hooking up for money, or simply the need to find someone, etc.. its purely an attraction between two people.

But with that said, there can be a massive difference between someone at 17, 18 years old and when they're in their mid-20s. Rushing into marriage a year after high school, like Iv seen, I think is a mistake. But theres no reason two kids cant be together from an early age and wait till later in life.

You guys are cruel, and not very open minded, if you think that Teen love is just puppy love or lust, then that's cool, your opinion, but don't knock others for having different opinions to your own. And as for the "Broke at 25" comment, how can my bf's brother be broke in 3 years time if he's a qualified and employed maths teacher? Pretty sure he's not going to screw up his job anytime soon...

its narrow minded to believe hormone fuelled naiive teenagers and young adults that are likely to change course and beliefs and desires 10 times before they go to bed can all have long lasting permanent relations under the guise of 'love'. quite a few do, and quite a few of those pop out kids, realise its not all cool, and get divorced very early.

its not cruel, its realistic. teenagers and most young adults dont have the patience or skills to keep a realtionship going beyond 'omg sex iz cool omg ilysm'. they dont have the experience to work through problems in relationships. thats why teenagers have various partners, to learn foundation skills for when they do meet someone worth holding on to.

As a person who just quit a long long term "teen love" relationship, of course it is a gimmick.

There are two aspects that define this teen love: peer pressure and media.

As you may think with the initial feelings of euphoria etc etc, its a first. I've learnt that anything you experience the first time is the best (sex, drugs etc). The reason it works is because you're not used to the background and history of insecurities of arguements etc and you think its perfect.

Those people who date their first partner for a few years, there is a lack of experience and don't know they can do so much better. They don't get to realise that they're young, have so much more to experience

love isn't defined by age, nor is it restriced by anything else

In reality, it depends upon the individual. The vast majority of twelve year-olds are far too immature to possibly be in love. By the time they reach nineteen, they will be mature enough. Certain people buck this trend.

In my opinion, "teen" love would be around 13 or 14 (well logically speaking, thirTEEN, fourTEEN and etc). At such a young age, most teenagers would still have no idea about how the world works. In addition, many teenagers are now influenced by many different social factors such as peer pressure, teen actors/actresses (Zac Efron: HSM star ring a bell?), television series, and even more simply "teh internets"... and the list goes on. Basically as many people above have posted, young people's minds are always moulded and shaped not only by family but also external factors which no one really can control. So for example it may seem cool to have a girlfriend/boyfriend at a young age such as 15 because you may get a higher social status in high school, and this may have been influenced by a television series such as the OC (I'm being very general here).

After seeing quite a number of failed teen relationships from my school, I can honestly say that they may be "fun" and "cool" to have during high school, but in the end the effects can be harmful not only psychologically but academically. Wouldn't it all seem a bit pointless to be in a relationship for 3-4 years and then a sudden (and usually quite painful) break-up right before one's HSC can cause mental and physical stress. It'd affect your HSC performance standards, which would not only hamper (or destroy) your chances at university but also in some extreme circumstances if either party cannot handle such a break-up they may cause themselves self-harm.

In simple terms my view is this:
-Teen relationships never work out, even if they do in the end most likely you'll end up as "just friends". Wait till university, the world is a bigger place than you think.
