I've seen them around, and they're so much easier to remember than z1234567@etc.

How does one go about getting one of these email addresses? Do you have to get a tutoring job or a spot in a student body or something?

you need to go to Wombos DIY, and login into your DIY Web Pages (this is assuming you've agreed to the conditions of use). you will find alternate email aliases as one of the options.

I don't know much about UNSW or the DIY email, but just wondering if;
a) How much is it?
b) Can we access it from Outlook (using pop3?)
c) Is it hard to register it again as the "UNSW Alumni" so we don't have to change our email addy later on?
I know I should probably look through the help files but I'm guessing people here would know it off the top of their heads?

I read about the UNSW Alumni thing on one of the links on UNSW... dw it's not important.

As for the SMTP restrictions- Bigpond (Cable) has that too.. pain in the butt, but I survived using the Bigpond SMTP which is actually pretty fast?

Are you serious? difficult to remember?

My student number is more ingrained into my brain than my own phone number.

It is difficult to remember someone else student number... esp where there are 20s of them :)

They really should brand each student's number with hot irons across their forehead. Then there's no excuses for forgetting.

On a side note, I still remember my high school HSC student number, my first home phone number (changed a decade ago) and my dad's driver license's number. However I could not remember my own license's number and my home postal code.

Actually yourname@student.unsw.edu.au, as sunny suggested, is only useful in formal situation. Other times we have gmale.com.

Peace :)

if we do change our email, would we still be subscribed to mailing lists and so forth?

I remember doing the HSC and I was worried I'd forget my student number but everyone told me "Don't worry, by the end of your Trials it'll be memorised."... and sure enough, I remembered it. Stupid rule that you had to write it on every page of every essay and question booklet... but I guess that did the trick. Should've bought a stamp I reckon.
