For people who've done it before: What languages did you use?

and for the others: what language are you using?

anyways in class we use BASIC languages mostly: VisualBasic 6, DarkBASIC so on...
but out of class in doin C++ and i just got a book on Java.

Eheh nah.
I was only taught Pascal, Excel & Access.
But I'm comfortably learning C, Java & C# on my own accord.
I only use Pascal or Access for school related work.

VBasic... QBasic was cool, Im good with pseudocode not good @ converting that to code tho -_-' annoying

Ive done Visual Basic 6 and Pascal at school. Used C++ and SQL for various odd jobs at work. Will also be doing Java, C and Matlab soon.

I've covered some Java on my own and in year 11 SDD. I've also got a nice background in C++ and that's what we use in class.

whoa, you guys are doing pretty good languages. we're only doing Pascal. I don't have much background on programming language so I think that's quite okay.

I'm thinking Python though...hmm

but I didnt pay too much attention to that... and learnt java on the side...
used it for my major project too =D

Our class did python.
But i can code in C, C++, C#, Python, ASM, and a little VB.

I am absolutely terrible at pseudocode, hate it. i find pseudocode really isnt equipt to handle object orientated programming.

Very true.
It ISNT designed for pseudocode...which is sequential.

When i came to write pseudocode for my documentation... my teacher said... just write it all in english prose =D

Visual Basic is all we've ever been taught in the SDD course and it's probably all we'll ever be taught in the SDD course..... it's all the teacher knows!

Other than that, back in year 9 we learnt a little bit of python as an off-side thing that I have now completely forgot.

VB and Java seem a bit more practical thogh

We did Visual Basic 6 last year, and also Year 11. Our old teacher that taught us in Year 11 knew how to code C++ but the teacher we had in Year 12 probably only know Visual Basic 6.

C++ is more interesting than Visual Basic 6.

We r using VB though i taught myself basic C++ and Java since they are the languages you need if you want to get into the idustry

Never learnt a language in my actual class. Built my major project using PHP, HTML, MySQL and CSS. Luckily i already had the knowledge before hand to do it otherwise i would have been screwed. Its weird... For example i remember reading in one of the resources that arrays can only be of one data type, whereas PHP allows arrays to contain any data type. I mean PHP is a pretty loose language in those terms which is why i like it. Not to mention i prefer web development more than desktop development.

First, to teach the class the basics of programming, we learnt Javascript, but from a really old book that was advocating the use of the <font> tag. The teacher claimed that we learning how to write Javascript or HTML, but rather learning the fundamentals and basic flow structures… something like that. I think it was just because he is a bit of a crap teacher...

Just out of interest, what kind of things are you guys doing with Python?

I made an online torrent client with built in music search, using the Django web framework and Transmission for the torrent backend. It was aimed at people who use Limewire but don't really know the risks of it and why it sucks so much, to try and get them into using BitTorrent.

It has became an instant hit in my class. During our lessons we just sit around torrenting music and listening to it .
