you must be reallllllyyyy sheltered...have you ever watched T.V...even if its for half n hour and you'll see all the sex on T.V...in fucking PG-rated timeslots...big brothers friggin on at 7:30, kids are having sex at younger and younger ages...that guy that died a few months ago from a hit and run was like 15 or 16 with a kid...have u ever heard of a doll called barbie...if that's not a prime example of sexualising little girls i dont noe wat the fuck is...small children are bombarded wif sexualised images on a daily basis....most of WYD people are from european countries...they dont even have T.V censorship, so u can imagine their T.V programs...haven't u ever heard of a 12 or 13 year old having sex? decades ago it was viewed as immoral to have sex under 18..look at it now...imagine a few decades in the future...i think its totally appropriate to give sex ed to young kids...if not they'll learn it the wrong wayJaredR said:but I believe that allowing children easy access to condoms is opening them to sexual ideas.
Because what I do with my time has zero impact on the validity of my argument?JaredR said:And if you have an issue with contraception and HIV why don't you go over to Africa and educate them and provide them with condoms? Why don't you donate your time, money and efforts to a people in greater need?
Well the gathering isn't viewed as abhorrent, it's the actions of the catholic church that are. Providing public funding to what is at best a religious celebration is of course going to be an issue, especially for the majority non-catholic tax payers that are well aware of how wealthy the church is.It sickens me that something so positive as a gathering of young people, in good spirit and good nature has been viewed by non-believers as abhorrent.
Though it is nice of people to donate their families, I don't really see why it matters in this context.Fact is I have witnessed the good nature of so many people I would have least expected in their donations of food, time, their homes, their families, their blankets and winter clothes...
Um, it is irrelevant.I'm aware of poor West Africans unaware of the season in Australia coming in summer clothes and an email going out to parents of the school they were staying at... so many brought in blankets and warm clothes. It's this good nature that you're either refusing to acknowledge nor see as relevant, because it seems so much easier...
With all the religion bashing in this thread you guys seemed to have missed that^.JaredR said:And if you have an issue with contraception and HIV why don't you go over to Africa and educate them and provide them with condoms? I think that if we did not teach underage kids about sex, they are are going to go do it and there would be an increased amount of teenage pregnancy and STI's^CoSMic DoRiS^^ said:I will never accept the idea that exposing children to facts and issues about sex is a bad thing. It's not. I don't agree that we ought to shelter children from it until they're 16, what's the point? I'm not suggesting we screen hardcore porn to kindergarten classes, just that educating underage kids about sex is hardly going to corrupt their little minds. It's a fact of life, sex is something everyone needs to know about. I really don't get what the fuss is about.
I think some people (Catholics) are delusional about the fact that yes, there are 16 year olds having sex and have no idea what they are supposed to use to protect themselves from STIs and so forth.^CoSMic DoRiS^^ said:I will never accept the idea that exposing children to facts and issues about sex is a bad thing.
