Working full time and studying full time at University, is it possible or crazy (1 Viewer)

Hi guys, I was just wondering whether it is possible for me to work full time and also study full time at University?

I have to help out at my dad's news agency from 11pm to 8am the next day, everyday. I'm also planning on studying full time university next year. Is it possible to survive like this for 5 years?? Or am I delusional?
NB: I have to work since my mum's sick, so I have no other choice...

Do one part-time and one full-time.

So if you work full-time, do uni part-time.

If you work part-time, do uni full-time.

It is hard to do both full-time, but I think it may be possible. However, it eaves no-time for doing other things, and you will be spending around 80/168 hours a week for work/study, accounting for travel times and such as well.

But what I can't do work or uni part time. I have to work full time, but the courses I choose and want are all full time study, there is no part time option.

I work 3 days a week (8-10 hour days) and study full time. That's definitely doable. 40-hour work weeks would be tough though.

The workload and lifestyle you will have is the equivalent of someone trying to get a 99 ATAR, for 4 years.

It is only hard if you are in the bottom 99% of the state.
With silly mistakes, it is hard. at in least in uni and work there is no competition and less luck is involved.

What I meant was that 99 ATAR isn't hard compared to doing full time work and uni.

If you went to a top school yes. If you went to my school, ranked in the 600's, a 99 ATAR would be harder still imo.

School rank has barely anything to do with it. Working full time and doing uni full time is insane in the OP's case. OP is working EVERYDAY from 11 at night to 8 in the morning. Then will probably have uni from 9 in the morning to late in the afternoon considering they have a 5 year course.

They barely even have enough time to sleep, let alone pull it off for 5 years.

kinda true. yeah I missed that point of having to work after uni hours. I just supposed that the weekends could be used, but obviously 16 hours not enough. Yeah its way harder OP than getting a 99 ATAR.

Ask yourself this:

Can I work from 11 at night to 8 the next morning and then get to uni and lectures/tutorials by 9.00 a.m. (possible depending on where you live and the uni you attend of course) and then maybe still fronting for lectures/tutorials at 5.00 p.m. getting home and then having to sleep sometime.

You are planning a 9 hour working day at night - when the bodyclock wants to sleep and then spending time getting to uni before another 6 hours plus before getting home to go to sleep and you should be getting at least 7 hours a night if not 8 - so should be asleep by no later than 4.00 p.m. assuming you live above the paper shop - if not you will need to be in bed even earlier to allow for travel times.

You need to look at the timetable you will have to maintain and then see if it is possible.

You may need to look at an alternative way to complete the uni course you want e.g. a different uni, one with a distance ed option - allowing you to study even full-time at times that suit you. Not knowing your preferred course I don't know if that is an option. You might have to make some compromises and will miss a lot of the fun side of uni.

If you are doing something with high contact hours such as science then forget it.

Could be doable for arts, commerce etc, but forget about having a life.

It is possble, but it is very hard and challenging. You won't have time to play stupid games or sometimes to socialise, but you will on the other hand learn to appreciate your free time and will get some work habbits which are pretty cool.

My mum did 2 Masters (a MBA and can't remember the other one) while working full time as an accountant. Both were in Business though
