Hi everyone,

How many words in total would you write for each response in an AOS: Discovery examination?

For example, the creative 950 words, the extended response 1,000, reading 800 - whatever you think is appropriate.

There's been some discussion that for English (Advanced) you must write 1,000 words in the creative/extended response to qualify for full marks. Do you agree?

Creative: 750-850
Essay: 1000-1100
Reading: don't bother fretting on word count - just answer the question and provide justification in accordance with the mark value

For creative, it's not a necessity, but for the extended response it does help. Quality is important, but quantity is quality in itself.

In my view, the creative should exceed 800 words. 800 to 950 seems like an appropriate range, because any opportunity to show off your writing increases the marker's impression of the work.

I absolutely agree that "Quality is important, but quantity is quality in itself.". Great quote!
