Hi, today i had a test for maths advanced it was a formal assessment and it was so hard so i ripped a few pages and put it in my pocket (with the bad intention that i might have the opportunity of retaking because the teacher might of thought he lost them) later in the day he called me out of class and confronted me and i came clean, he said i am getting a N-Award and he said he was flagging me for "academic misconduct" to NESA ( can someone explain what that is), the main question i have is if this problem will affect my early entry opportunities or even me taking the HSC

what did I just read-
For the N-award part, you'll be fine I think(at least at my school you have to accumulate multiple to outright fail a subject). As for the "academic misconduct" part, I honestly have no idea - Imma assume that if this is the first time all is well?

I got a n-award at the start of year 11 but i am now doing engineering at uni. I reckon don't stress too much about this however do start studying better. It is not the end of the world.

i go to a school that does the same sort of garbage and they are probably just trying to scare you to prevent you and others around you from doing this sort of stuff or even worse stuff like cheating. you don't have things like academic misconduct records or flagging for NESA or whatever. even if there is such a thing this will probably never show up again outside the context of your high school - aka. when you apply for uni. unless you are like a repeat offender and you always cheat this is not smth you should worry too much about and no this does not affect your chances of taking the hsc or whatever.

if your school is somehow trying to get you into massive trouble or fail you or something like that, stand your ground. you are tecnhically in the wrong and this is academic misconduct but failing you, flagging you to nesa (whatever the hell that means) etc. is not valid. this incident shouldnt affect you in the long run bc this is just a one time thing and in the grand scheme of things its not a crime. dont try to justify what you did, but make sure if they are trying to do smth drastic or something really damaging to you, make an effort to negotiate politely.

for bullshit teachers like this you should try sending in an apology email and maybe theyll cool down and forget abt it. it typically works bc they are less bothered about you cheating and more bothered abt extra work they have to do to make sure you dont do it again, so they are usually willing to let to go if you are kind of nice to them

Your teacher is trying to scare you. Ripping off some of the pages of your assignment is in no way in-line with the definition of "academic misconduct".

Academic misconduct refers to any academic dishonest act that puts you or others in unfair advantage. You can have a look at this to have a clearer idea:

Your eligibility to take the HSC will not be affected. Don't worry.

i feel like even tho it is academic misconduct its not as bad as they are making it out to be ngl, i can see how they tried to cheat in an exam but i can't see why smth this minor that didn't really do anything harmful can have drastic effects on uni applications and hsc stuff, especially bc its a prelim task. at worst they will get a 0 on that task

despair, NESA keeps that shit on record until you die, every uni you apply for will see that you've broken academic conduct, its basically a financial an academic death sentence, you life is over.
