did any of you doing com, or more specifically com/sci ever consider doing com (lib std) at sydney? and if you did, why did you choose unsw?

Com/Lib is more of a "I don't know what I wanna do in future, so I'll do Com/Lib" type degree. It's a bit of everything so it aims to give you some direction. I chose UNSW because I knew what I wanted to do, and UNSW was the best place to do it at.

unsw is better for com
usyd is better for science
for com/sci if you want to go into com when you graduate then go to unsw

Likewise.
Was also a bit of a family thing to go there.

I had com/sci, com(lib) and com on my preference.
I ended up choosing commerce at unsw.

Reason:
I wanted to double major in commerce.
I did not like the compulsory artsy subjects that u need to do in com(lib).. writing does not particularly interest me.
Then I considered doing com/sci with major in psyc. but unsw com/sci does not allow double major in commerce.

usyd com/sci allows u to do double major in commerce 'if u can fit it in.'

but since my major focus was commerce, which unsw was better at.

I choose unsw commerce.

Good luck with your selections.

Not to me. Com (Lib) - not com/lib, is more of a 'I know what I want to do in Commerce, but want to broaden my horizons and get an arts major in as well'.
however, this is not for everyone. In fact, hardly any people are that holistic in nature and would prefer to stick to a field, to have more experience in it and do a better job in the future when specialising in a particular industry

Thats RIGHT!!

To quote Henry Ford (who was called "an ignorant pacifist" to which he challenged in court):
'If I should really WANT to answer the foolish question you have just asked, or any of the other questions you have been asking me, let me remind you that I have a row of electric push-buttons on my desk, and by pushing the right button, I can summom to my aid men who can answer ANY question I desire to ask concerning the business to which I am devoting most of my efforts. Now, will you kindly tell me, WHY I should clutter up my mind with general knowledge, for the purpose of being able to answer questions, when I have men around me who can supply any knowledge i require?"

Me too. I wasn't too keen on doing arts, I wanted to specialise. My brother also went to UNSW and said it would be the best place to study at so I was pretty convinced.

I'm sure doingCom/Arts at UNSW or Com Lib at Sydney is a really great way to broaden your horizons, but like Stazi pointed out, I guess it just depends on how keen you are on you're specialisation.

or you could even do com/arts at usyd (which is probably better if you want an arts component)

personally i just want a good commerce degree, but not four years of drudgery. i was planning on a finance and maths/stat double major with either com/sci at unsw and com (lib) at usyd. i know there are people who made com (lib) but decided to go to unsw anyway, and i just wanted to know on what basis the decision was made. it seems that i would be better off at unsw judging by what has been said here, but i will see later on.

I am also interested in getting into commerce at UNSW, however my UAI did not make it :( My passion lies in computer/software engineering; hence i was wondering if i study either of those at unsw, would i be able to transfer to the B Eng/B Com degree easily?
Is it even possible?

If specialisation is what you want, then stick with UNSW Com/Sci, its very focused, compared with Com(Lib)

haha, worst majors for com (lib) ever. also, you wont be able to get a maths major with com (lib) unless you take 4 government units.
in terms of the commerce degree, as said, it doesnt matter which uni u decide on - usyd and unsw are the same (pretty much). Employment opportunities are also pretty much the same. Go to uni based on which uni is more your 'fit'. Go to the open days, etc. Which uni do you want to be part of?
USYD was the perfect fit for me, and I just felt like I belong there. UNSW may be that fit for you. I emphasise social life, clubs and societies, etc thus USYD was my choice. You may emphasise other factors

from the august/september open days usyd was far more impressive than unsw. in fact i wanted to go to usyd because it was such a great environment alone. but now i think about it, what i want to specialise in suits unsw. ill be going to the usyd open day (mainly because of free food in the morning) and ill see what they have to say about com (lib).

theyll obviously promote their course (com lib). if youre intent on going to usyd, then perhaps com lib isnt the right deg for you. do commerce or commerce/science or even economics.
AND AGAIN: in com (lib) you CANT get a science major unless you take four government subjects.
