Yah the system is dumb... but everyone else at a shit school, including myself, was aware of this and studied accordingly šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
How would you make the system better. The system IMO is perfect for now, you need to stay consistent across the board to be able to maintain ranked. If they made the hsc any easier, people like OP would become doctors, or get high-ranked positions in society, in which they would not have the academic excellence to do. People who get 99.95 don't get it from a flawed system, there smart as hell and worked their butts off for it.

Ikr I agree. I understand what nonya2000 is saying but them calling their classmate a bitch is so unnecessary. How is it their classmateā€™s fault? It sucks but thereā€™s really nothing much we can do about it, especially us year 12s who are literally about to sit the hsc in a week or two. So cruel for no reason. Such misdirected anger
plus he's wrong anyways lol

I'm fine with internals weighing 50% of your HSC mark, however as nonya2000 said, the ranking system is absolutely ridiculous, my "internal mark/grade" shouldn't be based on what other people get. Ranking shouldn't have a play in this system imo. If I get a overall 80 in my internal, and 90 in external, hence my HSC mark should be 85, simple.
Thatā€™s just unfair lmao

getting 80 internally at James Ruse is so much better than getting 80 internally at mt Druitt high. That shit is not comparable. While moderation isnā€™t perfect, it incentivises teachers to set difficult exams rather than some free ass tests where everyone gets 100.

No, she only did good on small topic tests, I can confidently say I'm smarter than that dumb bitch. Plus I got 100% on all topic tests except one which was a 75%, hence I'll share a mark with this dumb bitch even though I performed way better than her in trials.
Brother youā€™re a dumb bitch for getting 75% on a topic test šŸ¤£

My school is full of incredibly stupid individuals in math advanced. (49 avg) these clowns will be dragging me down since i'm not the 1st ranker. (calling them stupid cause they had the choice to drop, yet stayed merely because they wanted to stay with their friends. My advanced cohort should in reality only have like 5 people, yet there are 40)(top 5 marks for the trials were (98, 97, 92, 85, 79) as you can see, it greatly diminishes, almost exponentially). Who is the absolutely fucking retard that thought of this system? Not only is it unfair and isn't a true representation of your achievement, it promotes a fucking hell lot of inequality. Imagine a suburb like mount druitt. If you're in a school full of fucking idiots and there are only two smart kids, you being the second, you're going to fucking get a shit mark because these drop kicks will drag you down. The system should be like A Levels. 100% of the mark comes from the external assessment. HSC is inherently discriminatory to people who aren't in selective schools and low social economic suburbs by its design. Aboriginal kids are getting way less band 6s not because they are dumb and did bad on externals, its because they are forced to get dragged down by the whole community because of this racist system.

You fucking woke people care about inequality and preach it yet you make a system where high achieving students marks are able to be comprimised by a poor cohort, caused by being in a poor area or non selective school, because apparently making students share marks external on an exam marks is a good idea. Proof that the uneducated run the education system. No other fucking school system in the world does this peculiar bullshit. China's gaokao scores are based on an external exam A levels scores are based on multiple external exams.

To make things clear, imagine being 2nd ranked internally in Rooty Hill High School, with an external mark of 85, and the 3rd internal ranker's external mark is a 45. Guess who's average you will be taking? Not the first, you will be taking this retard's average, for an average external mark of 65. Hope you understand why its flawed.

Can the scaling also be set in fucking stone? Just because a bunch of retards join a course, doesn't mean it should be scaled lower this year.
nah u dont take the average of external 2 and 3 as internal 2. it depends on the distance between 1 and 2 and 2 and 3. If internally (school assessments) 1&2 got 93%, 92%, 3 got 70%. Externally lets say 1,2,3 go 93,92,80. 2 will probably end up on a hsc mark of 92.

Someone whoā€™s ā€œhigh-achievingā€ would get a good rank bro. Thatā€™s 100% on you.

cohort only really drags u down if you dont pull a distance away from the dumb part of the cohort in internal assessments. then arguably you are part of that part of the cohort and its not really being dragged

alternatively ur school could have rubbish assessments/marking which screw this part up in which case valid point

i think it can be strongly argued that high atar doesnt make u the best doctor, where empathy would be important

also high-ranked positions and academic excellence dont really go together. see our politicians. high-ranking positions is ultimately about swinging people to your side which can be done through other means than academic excellence

Actually no. You're doing the same course, there's no reason a school would make a test paper easier than James Ruse papers. They are all the same difficulty, pretty sure its a guideline that teachers have to follow to make their exams. Mt Druitt high / rooty hill isn't a sped school, so therefore it has to follow the same procedures as else where.

lmao what
James Ruse Papers are SIGNIFICANTLY harder than papers from some random ahhh school. If you don't think this, you're either breezing through all the papers in such a way where the difference in difficulty is meaningless (easy 100's, very unlikely given your situation) or you genuinely haven't seen other papers before. If moderation was not a thing, schools would be incentivised to give easy ahhh tests so everyone gets 100 for their internal. Same procedures don't make Mt Druitt and James Ruse exams equal bro.

in his defense 2u papers from ruse probably caters to the weaker students given that the majority do 4u. never seen a ruse 2u paper but it could be pretty normal post y11

exactly, they aren't any harder compared to other schools and they also are easier than hsc exam. Knew it had to do with the fact that the actual smart people do extension 2 and 1.

eh fair point, however, this is more of an exception with a technicality, as nonya's reasoning can legit apply for every subject, not just 2u math.

Mt druitt 4u students still do the same course as NSB 4u students. Does this make the exams of equal difficulty? absolutely not

bro are you munted??

who's fault except YOURS is it to rank 5 at that 'shitty' school that you claimed it is to be.
the government system is not flawed, your brain is flawed šŸ’€

its your fault that you should have tried harder, how are you calling people dumb when they literally beat you? sounds like you are a bit salty. Instead of coping this hard, why don't you go study to save yourself from a mystery mark šŸ˜
