e is a number, not the inverse of a function (especially one whose definition relies on the definition of e :)). I guess the most intuitive way to 'discover' the number e is to consider the derivative of the functions 2^x and 3^x. You'll be left with some constant, < 1 and > 1 respectively, times your original function. So we reason there must be some number between 2 and 3, call it e, such that the function e^x leaves you with the constant 1 times your original function when you differentiate.

P.S. I cringe everytime someone calls it Euler's number.

Wha ... what the fuck? Constants being expressed as sums?
I thought it was peculiar that the sine and cosine function could be expressed as a sum of a Taylor series (whatever it was called).
Damn integration.

I love pi but e is quicker for me to write and less likely to turn out illegible if I'm writing quickly.

theres some savant dude that recited pi to 20,000 digits on some thing called pi day
took him like 8 hours
he learnt it in 2 weeks aswell

sub in x = 1, and you'll get a series for pi/4
Now that I am learning Taylor polynomials and series this stuff is actually pretty cool.

To OP, you should put in a third and a fourth option "Both" and "Neither".

Pi even goes beyond maths and into the economic world it also is used to be a symbol for inflation :) Except that doesn't mean inflation is equal to 3.142 blah blah blah

Other than that, e is so much more useful

definitely pi, but maybe coz i haven't really learnt e that much yet...but pi is cool, at least u can eat it......

pi.The use of pi in integration is really elegant. e is annoying. I find it confusing doing differentiation with e.
