The later is definantly a factor the former also likely.....

I'd say its also partly driven by almost lemming like behaviour, as people have left for their varying reasons (neo, rorix, asqy [sorta], ziff) the subsequent degraded state of the forum combines with other reasons and encourages more to do so (Generator, Moonlight) and others to post infrequently (iron, waf/calculon, leetom, erawami). Looking at these lists I can but think that I too will drift away, certainly in recent times I have posted less here than say this time last year.

Perhaps I should put myself down now? If things continue on their current trajectory I would not expect me to still be around by first semester next year. Except in the ANU forum easing the transition for 1st years.

Too think in the past I aspired to modship of NCAP, now I fear that the next mod will inherit the poison chalice of a dying forum.

/sorry post break-up I slip into depressed talk far easier than I used to.

As a side note: I think that Moonlights contribution to the mod squad will be sorely missed. I have seen no other Mod who can on the one hand act impartially to balance needs of order with needs of freedom yet on the other be so approachable. His style has certainly not been the smiting from the heavens that we have seen before.

Oh no one can drift away from the forum. I'm sure generator and others will stick around. No one ever leaves this place.

For sure once Moonlight leaves, this forum will be radically different.

The only problem is this is currently the best / (only) place to talk politics with a bunch of people your age, doing the same things (basically) as you (other than in uni), so where does that leave those of us who love this sort of thing? To get over it and find a new hobbie?

I'm sure he won't mind me saying this but Generator often posts things but then deletes them with reasons such as "eh", "I'll stay out of it", "I give up", etc. Not a nice indication that the forum is in good shape
Oh wow I thought those reasons were just there as a joke.

I completely concur. Moonlight executed the position with great intergrity and impartiality.

My thoughts may become more potent (or pungent) with age. That's the hope, anyway.

It's good to see a number of the older members of the forum talking once again. Nothing like the glory days of the last federal election, but it's a somewhat decent revival of sorts.

My theories would mirror those that have already been presented, but I would like to add another partial theory and say that beyond the occasional sarcastic comment from the odd member or two, humour, such as that applied by neo and rorix, is lacking from the sub-forum at large and I think that it is far from being a better place without it.

Of all the most recent threads, I would have to say that the VSU thread has been the most rewarding. The debates may be circular and largely unable to shift from entrenched positions, but at least it has been a thread of constructive debate, humour and frustration - the 'perfect' thread for a forum such as this, I would say.

Looks like someone is standing on the coat tails of their one race in order to make themsleves more worthy. It's the basis of invocation of racialism or the ordering of races. You havn't got anything to be proud of individually but at least you can proud of your race. Even if you have played little to no role in its improvment.

why should you be more proud of the achievments of the white race (if such a movement exists today?)...many asian law students are more versed in the bases of western (white?) society than you are. How does it feel?

Definately agree.

Nothing like the glory days of the last federal election
Maybe that's another reason why this thread has died down... has the government taking control of the senate and little sign of any real political change for the next 4 years made commentary much more boring?

I must admit that I find it hard to tear myself away from these forums. Everytime there is a major new story I come to NCAP hoping for it to be discussed in detail. There are also other threads in this forum which I like to discuss things. I've been pondering creating a new forum for older members of this site who would like to discuss things beyond the HSC and University but I'm not that dedicated to running things.

I can't help but think that I will be remain on this site for quite some time.

I think it is deeply unfortunate that through no fault of his own Moonlight has presided over the decline of NCAP. The forum is structurally and proceeduraly (mod-wise) in the best shape its been. I fear that his ascension will have marked the beginning of the end and his abdication the end. Though I stress again I do not blame Moonlight - I think he's the best Mod on BoS. I wouldn't say its the only place (there are bound to be others), what makes NCAP special is that members are generally not known to each other previously. This is not somewhere friends talk politics and compound their views this is where strangers debate. For this reason NCAP is also accessible being appended to the biggest student site in Australia we get alot of traffic and so people who might not otherwise be introduced to politics are.

I don't think I could get over this and find a new hobby :(, I don't know what I'll do though....

It still doesn't defeat the fact that many non whites understand western society more than you. You proudly push racialism and the primacy of the white western society. But many of those you don't like understand it and in many ways live it better than you.

Agreed.

Also, many of the social issues that can be debated are rather static and only a few are dynamic. As most of those issues have been discussed before, the natural focus is on politics, but as NTB says, even that has become stale these days

Personally I dunno if politics has really become stale... I mean there are so many huge things that are happening at the moment, I think it's more an affect on newer members... i.e. students who are currently apathetic.

Sometimes I delete posts after realising that in an attempt to provide another point of view I have actually moved beyond my own position and taken too hardline a stance and created a post that I am not entirely comfortable with (I'm happy enough to look like a fool, it's just that I'd like it be on terms that I consider to be appropriate). However, aside from that, it's as you say.

I think some might go away. Ppl do after the hsc is over. Not sure about uni students here though. With uni students, perhaps some of us think we're too old to be posting on an internet forum which is primarily aimed at those doing their hsc? That's just a suggestions.

The internet is relatively anoymous and so you can pretty much say what you want as long as you don't give personal details away e.g username: Sarah)

If you want to talk politics in real life, perhaps join a club or society at uni? Try meeting new ppl with smilar interests?

But yeh i do agree it is difficult to find ppl who have an interest in politics that are willing to discuss, argue, debate etc about topics.

Oh wait, I just thought of a place for those interested in politics. Joining a political party would keep you constantly surrounded by those with involved and interested in politics

I often begin posts... but end up not posting them. It may seem like a waste of time but I often reply out of retaliation and in that instance, it's best not to confirm them with the press of the button.

I also agree that the humour is sorely missed in these parts.

In some ways though the 'stagnation' in Federal politics has provided more to talk about for the media at large with the likes of Barnaby and Turnbull providing ample fodder for columns.

Perhaps I would tender the idea that the weakness and sidelining of Federal Labor has disheartened many on the left to the extent that they withdraw from the political world and live in a commune with no internet (so they cant log on to NCAP).
