What's with the influx of atar estimate threads? (1 Viewer)

I literally see 9001 threads about atar estimates every day.

I don't get it, how can the estimates be so accurate when 50% of your atar comes from externals?

Maybe because the HSC is just around the corner people want that extra motivation to work harder.

The estimates place people's internal positions into the broader perspective of how they will generally perform in the external examinations. Obviously, taken out of context, you can perform better in the externals, but it is a nice benchmark to have, especially when someone isn't entirely aware of how the moderation/alignment/scaling systems work.

Because understandably people wanna know their ATAR estimate. And I'm sure a lot of students are googling "ATAR estimate" or "ATAR calculator" and finding this site with people giving ATAR estimates.
