Incorrect.

U = mgh Assume h = 50metres
Mass = 85kg
g= 9.8 m/s^2
Total Energy Expended = 50*85*9.8 = 41650 J

However

If we assume the stairs rise 250Metres (Taking the stairs beginning from the electrical engineering building)

And if we also assume that the average human being is taking this trekk. so m = 100kg

Now as the distance from the earth increases our value of 'g' decreases, so lets assume g=9.79

so U = 250*100*9.79

Total energy Expended = 244750 J

So by walking up the stairs your expending about:

ONE QUARTER OF A MILLION JOULES OF ENERGY.

Edit: And i thought PHYS1121 was useless. :)
I was only estimating.
I don't weigh 85kg and I made an extremely rough estimate of the height taking the stairs as a hypotenuse.
lol internets is serious business.

edit: im an energetic fucker so i dont care about the stairs lol ... only my patience runs out
edit2: the 'typical' 100kg man has to be more than 7 foot tall if he's typically fit according to the BMI.
another estimate. ANOTHER ESTIMATE lah~

Why do you people constantly go on about the steps, I mean seriously. I don't even think about them, it's just natural for me to run up every set of steps I see, and usually I'm thinking, "****, I'm late to the lecture again!".

It's pretty awesome, no need for tutorials.
You can still take COMP1911 even if you have no computing background but I dropped it because it was boring.

ENGG1811 helps you understand Spreadsheets with Excel, Databases with Access, Visual Basic for Applications and the latest technology.
(In chronological order)

There's only two assignments (I've done both) compared to last years, you have to create a geographic region analyzer and a circle geometry analyzer.
The course is easier compared to previous years.

If you're doing Electrical or Mechanical you should take COMP1911 instead because it's prescribed or recommended (although it's an acceptable alternative).

If you're doing Civil or Chemical you should take this course (or COMP1911 if you want)

Oh course outline:

To put it lightly, it's a pretty well funded institution.
WHY do they only put lectures in once a week for each subject?
I have a friend that goes to a TINY uni, ACU, but she can miss out
on 3 days and make up for it in the next 2 because there are constant repeats of tutorials and lectures.
UNSW just isn't ready to pay for the extra lecture and tutorial times,
so alot of us end up with vulgar timetables.
Other than that, I love the university.
Yes, even the stairs.

depends on the demand for the course?

most of the first year subjects have more than 1 lecture stream that you go to. so people just usually skip the crap lecturer's lectures and go to the better one.

The stairs aren't too bad. You guys need to get off ur ass and excercise :]

I'm first year and there haven't been any more than 1 lecture stream for my subjects, or any of my friends for that matter.
And hey, I said I don't mind the stairs!
You probably think I'm one of those badly dressed fat girls now don't you.
Right on :p

hmm. when i was first year we had more than 1 lecture stream. even now for the main subjects like accounting, finance, etc.
and i wasn't referring to you young missy. :]

i must say though; i have seen more badly dressed fat girls at USYD than at UNSW. which is always a plus... i HATE seeing fat girls dressed in short shorts >< such a horrible image. . . seriously.
...you probably think that im one of those fat asianguys don't u? =p

I don't mind all the stairs. It's good exercise :)

I know this has been mentioned above, but the 12 week semesters are a bit to much to handle with all the assessments being crammed together. I also don't like the tutors who have no clue how to teach. Lucky I only average about 1 per semester.

Other than that, UNSW is good:D

I should be a tutor and show em how its done.
Seriously, its not that hard to engage the class.

1) Tell people to introduce themselves
2) Say a joke you rehearsed off the net
3) Do a fun mini quiz
4) Teach the class

I dont understand how tutors can be so boring?.

If you werent social, didnt like to talk much and cant teach things properly, then dont become a tutor?
I know it sounds harsh, but one of my maths tutors is like this, While my friend gets the lecturer (Bose) as his tutor. Im burning :(

nearly all my subjects have more than one lecture stream

it just depends on how populated the courses are

That's right, they used to offer more than one lecture stream. Then my Spanish tutor told us that they were cutting down. WHAT do they need to cut down for!!!??
You're lucky, you got the best years in...STUVAC, easier timetables etc.

I actually think I have a phobia for badly dressed fat girls.

And I don't usually associate fat with Asian.
Only UNSW with Asian.
