I plan on doing arts/communications, and study a bunch of units, namely philosophy, psychology, whatever interests me. I'm not doing any maths or sciences in the hsc, will this limit what I can study?

None.

Prerequisites have more or less been phased out. If there is assumed knowledge for a major, then in most cases a bridging course will be suffice.

no.

in 2012 unis don't really require you to know basic arithmetic before you take maths and science courses (too politically incorrect), there will be "assistance" programs for whatever you need, don't even have to take a bridging course anymore
