hi, when ever I play a game eg. GTA my comp restarts or the game shuts down (comp is only 2 months old)--and my friend has the same comp , just less ram and HDD but it works perfectly on his comp. So could it be somethng wrond with video card or something? (the video card is 32mb shared)

Your video card sounds a bit bare to run the game. Try updating your drivers.

but the prob is that the game runs perfectly on my friends comp (with same comp)----we bought the comp from same shop and same time--so everything is the same except HDD, ram

I'm assuming you are reffering to the newer GTA games (GTA 3 or GTA: Vice City) because GTA 1 and 2 only needed a 75mhz pentium computer with 16mb ram and 1mb video ram. If this is the case, your onboard video card will not be enough to run it. A Geforce or higher card are required to run the game, while a Geforce 3 or higher is recommended. Most onboard video adaptors don't have such performance or hardware support for DX7+ effects.

Edit: In that case make sure you have the latest Direct X and updated video and sound drivers. You could also try closing background applications before running the game (through Alt+Ctrl+Del)

i've had similar problems
ie with hl2
i think its either
1. my video card overheats and crashes everything
2. my case doesnt have enough power

just off the top of my head:

update video card drivers,
update Direct X,
update motherboard drivers,
get a proper video card...

your "more/larger" HD & RAM probably pulls more power than ur friend's comp, hence urs crashes and hes doesn't... or that they are overheating because of this...

a long time ago, my comp used to restart everytime i ran anythin other than IE and ICQ... but this was on my PII 233 with a dodgy case fan which overheated whenever the videocard started getting to work (as in games)

better question did u buy the game or rip it. If it's ripped dont complain man, if its bought then yeah u got a case. Sometimes restarts occur on ripped things because they are missing a few core components.

By default, Windows XP restarts the computer during a system error instead of showing a blue screen of death. If you right click on my computer, go to the advanced tab and go to the Start Up and Recovery options; you can turn off the automatic restart. The error message you receive may provide a clue to whats wrong, especially if you type it into google.

thanks for ur help everyone, btw I have SiS graphics, video cards all dat and I would just like to know which motherboard is better ECS elitegroup or Gigabyte? Cos I'm supposed to get gigabyte motherboard and I realised that its not that (my friend also--I told him). And yes I recieve the blue screen (I have to restart is manually though--sorry I didn't specify this b4) it says dumping physical memory-1 then 2 then 3 ..so on........ And yes the game is ripped--I didn't know that effects the performance (but it works on my friends comp). I also tried cricket 2004--same thing happens.

So please tell me what mother board is better so I can change it, and I don't mind buying original game as long as I'm sure it will work--don't wanna waste money if it still doesn't work

thx again

if the video is shared you might want to try increasing it to 64MB or some shit. also try turning down the graphical detail of the game

how do u do that?
not entirely sure mate - check the manual that came with your motherboard, try fiddling around with the video card settings in control panel?
