We didn't look at Anils Ghost too. The syllabus told us to study three of the four prescribed text hence we're doing The Real Inspector Hound, The Skull Beneath the Skin and Rear Window.

I'm using The Real Inspector Hound and The Skull Beneath the Skin.

You can choose to do 2 or 3 prescribed texts, but my english teacher has always told us that "less is more" - in other words, you're alot better off studying 2 prescribed texts in analysing them in alot of detail than doing 3 and not looking at them in so much detail.

She's an HSC marker aswell, so she knows what she's saying.

for the trials... we only have the choice of doing the skull beneath the skin and rear window.. somehow we're not allowed to do real inspector hound which i prefer over the skull beneath the skin.. =\

@dzdz that doesn't seem fair. if anything you should be allowed to get rid of rear window, which is just a bit too far out of genre to work with anything imo

Rear Window 'out of the genre'? What makes you say that?

I've chosen to use Rear Window and The Skull Beneath The Skin primarily because those two I feel most confident about. We didn't finish studying The Real Inspector Hound until around the beginning/middle of last term, so most of my practice essays, etc have so far been on the first two.

Anil's Ghost
Rear Window
Skull Beneath

No-one seems interested in Anil's, it's the hardest imo but also probably the best to do for that reason

I'm picking The Skull Beneath the Skin and Rear Window.
I can much better contemporary texts than Anil's Ghost through my supplementary texts.
The other one of my supplementary texts is a Cosy Golden Age text, considering the fact that I'd need an original one to contrast with the contextual subversions from James's Skull.

In class, we did all 4 of the texts and picked out which ones we liked the most.

I found Skull Beneath The Skin the most boring read ever. Thank god for Rear Window and The Real Inspector Hound!

It depends on the question. I'll study all three, but I would definately use The Real Inspector Hound and Rear Window.

Is it possible that they could ask us to refer to three prescribed texts?
They won't ask for three. It's just good to be prepared to use any of the three prescribed texts you have studied in case the question suits a certain two better than the other.
