Because Bio, IT and IPT don't scale well. And Maths would have dragged you down.

Bio and English are below the state average, so in the lower 50%. The MAths is in the bottom 10% so would have really dragged you down.

IT and IPT would have held there own but the maths would have been the major problem.

Maybe it was the maths, and they lied about your UAI to see if you would notice.

No? No. :(

The only reason you got into the 50's is because of your 2 band 5's.

A mixture of band 3's/4's will see you get a 30 something UAI.

It was my understanding that you could essentially leave the HSC paper blank and your mark would be 50.

So you managed to fuck up REAL well in maths.

To get less than 50 you have to not try.

To get ~50 you have to attempt the paper.

UAI is a rank, the UAI you recieved fits the marks you obtained because the subjects you chose are low scaling.
Sorry but it is correct

Wait what?! I had a mixture of band 3's/4's. The only other thing was a 90 in art...Which probably saved me.

It depends on which subjects though. 70 in 4unit maths is way better than 70 in general maths etc.

Ah, I forgot about that. General consensus is that my chosen subjects were pretty much scaled TEH DOOMS and whatnot. :p

I'm surprised you got a UAI at all.

To be eligible for a UAI in 2006 a student must satisfactorily complete at least 10 units of UAI courses.
I always thought that you had to pass ten units to get a UAI. It seems I was mistaken.

hmm.. which raises the question: When does the BoS believe a course to be "satisfactorily complete"?

BOS has nothing to do with UAI, sp they do not decide if its satisfactory.

However, they do publish the perfomance descriptors that say if you are of Band 1, there is no requirements of the course you have completed.

Yea I know, but:

obviously they decide who is eligible for a UAI in the first place

That is done by UAC not BOS. BOS has nothing to do with UAI
