What happens when a kid in selective school gets the following marks and ranks in his half-yearly school report?

English Advanced: 49% ranked last
Economics: 49% ranked last
Legal Studies: 49% ranked last
Maths 2u: 49% ranked last
Physics: 49% ranked last

But then does "ok" in his hsc tests? (eg. external marks all around 80)

What atar do you think this kid will get?

I don't know... 80 or so. 49% ranked last might seem bad - but I'm assuming that that 49% is not too far behind the person second last and that this school is ranked pretty highly, and that the resulting moderation will shift stuff upwards (and the external marks is around 80) - 80 seems about right.

I'd say like 60 atar maybe, depends on ranks, and all external marks as stated, if 49% is bad and then it's band 5s in the actual HSC that must mean the school is really tough, so it could lead to an 85ish atar, possibly higher

Being ranked last in a school, whether it is selective or non-selective, will damage your internal assessment marks significantly. because it means you will get the worst exam mark as your assessment mark, and there will ALWAYS be someone that drags the pool of marks down. so yes, i agree with a poster above, 50-60 would be about right.

Ruse 2010 had a larger-than-average tail, but their head was insane. Just insane. Trust me when I say that.
