So many people I know are doing gap years, and a few are have invited me to go to Canada with them to snowboard for a few months. I so want to go, but I want to start uni and get it over with... snowboarding is fucking awesome argh so tempting.

Advantages/Disadvantages of doing a gap year people?

Meh, if I had the opportunity to take a gap year and go travelling with friends etc I'd do it - we deserve some living after those 13 yrs of school

Say I did it, what would I have to do come this time in 2009 when it's time to apply to unis?

Would it just be via UAC as an undergrad, exactly the same as you would if you were in year 12? Will I be disadvantaged in any way shape or form?

If not... fuck yeah! Smooth slopes here I come... then we would be going to Europe. It would be so amazing.

You'd still apply through the UAC with the same UAI. I doubt you'd be disadvantaged in any way. I dunno, do your own damn research

I would defer your uni course rather than just not applying. Apply to UAC just like every other yr 12 student in 2008. when u get ur offer, defer it for 12 months. most uni's allow u to. then u can be basically guaranteed a spot in the course. dont take my word on this. each uni has a different deferring policy (some courses can't be deferred) so make sure u research it very well - ask ur careers advisors etc.

Many believe that those who take a gap year are better off in the long run as they've had time to relax and de-stress from school. whereas those who go straight into uni are more likely to burn out. personally im going straight into uni but thats only because i loved school and feel "lost" without education in my life... yes i know - nerdy

Hmm.

I want a high UAI mainly for bragging privileges. As for career aspirations, I suppose I'll just see what happens. I'd be interested in editing I guess, and Family law is kind of appealing, but I guess I'll see what sort of UAI I get and take it from there.
