What degree do I need to get a job that earns enough money to buy an apartment in the city or a house in a prestigious area in Northern Sydney?

Nearly like every degree can earn that if you become manager etc so may as well pick something you like, since do you want to do something you hate for 40+ years?

No degree will help, it's too expensive. Give up now :(

Almost any degree with a viable career path can do that however some jobs will take longer to pay off say mortgage so if you want to quickly pay it off then do some degree that gets you a job like gp, surgeon etc etc, however if time doesn't really matter than just go for a degree with a job that you really like and as the others said, the way you manage your money is very very important.

Edit: Just become a neurosurgeon doesn't seem too hard :), or you can start a business now that doesnt even need a degree
Edit2: Not now after HSC

house prices could collapse come the next end of business cycle

but by that time you might have to worry about even having a job at all, let alone owning a home

I mean yeah they'll collapse, but not by a few hundred k's, which is what we need.

I mean the media house price is about 1.2mil

realistically it should be about 800k for the market to be slightly affordable

Doctor, lawyer, actuary.....i mean i don't think just because you have a job of a high status it will mean that you will earn a lot of money

why not consider renting an apartment first then buying a house?

Id swap lawyer with Engineering - lawyers dont make as much as they used to except for the people at the top (which can be said for many professions).

Serious response (so I don't get banned): if you're good at maths and thinking quick, trading is very lucrative. You can make great money at prop traders like Jane Street. Of course you'd need to be exceptionally talented...
