Sorry if this was posted before, I've searched using the search function so don't go nuts.

Thanks~

i have no clue (it's way beyond the syllabus) - try google

um, also, if this is for the 'molar heats of combustion of alkanols' expt u only need the heat capactity of water!!! i think u may be confusing this with the actual fuel used.....

I think you'l need an SI data book for this.

You mean...molar heat of combustion...?

O_O

What you are asking is not required, and has/will never been/be used/tested in the HSC syllabus.

Oh...yea my bad molar heat of combustion completely rushed and didn't bother reading what I typed before >_<"
It was just in a question in one of the practicals where you had to graph the accepted values vs experimental value. Anyhow I obtained the results, if you are curious anyways
Ethanol-1364 kJ/mol
Methylated Spirits (95% methanol used methanol value)-725 kJ/mol
Propanol-2010 kJ/mol

My friend taken these values from that "book" with all the units and stuff...yes I sound really ignorant.

molar heat of combustion and the specific heat capacity of a substance are 2 very different things, so i suggest u revise this prac several times.....

Heh, molar heat capacity of those fuels used to be in the old syllabus (ie. when it used to be proper chemistry). I think it's still in university.

You used to calculate it theoretically using the energy within the bonds.

I don't know where you can get the molar heat of combustion theoretical values, but I suggest trying wikipedia. It's like the best thing invented on the internet... 's got everything.
