Congrats Chevalier on surviving your first week of uni! Oh and probably wouldn't have recommended you ask for her number so early, but oh well you're learning :)

I also find it funny how women are being made out as objects in this thread which require some sort of skill or trick to 'get' but whatever.
+1

yes I do need some ppl to study with, during my 4 hrs downtime :p

But for the moment I have more pressing things to worry about, namely the 100+ pages of readings I have to do before next wk, of which 46 of that is law that's due on thursday :p the reality of going to uni is slowly starting to sink in, but is the realisation that all the time invested in meeting study commitments makes it equal to the effort and time invested in a full time job :p

But seriously guys good luck for the new uni year and to all u other new students, all the best for a fantastic, happy and successful first year at uni

But... but... they do need skill to get. I read about it! In a book.

Sometimes I can't even tell whether BoS is intelligent or filled with retards. I'm considering settling on idiot savant with Tourette's

cbf reading the whole thread, but if someone has said this, I'll reiterate for them--if you do Engo, you're stuffed.

Nah seriously, just get out there, get involved in the C&S, volunteering, sports stuff, whatever. Seriously, what is with this forum? Did you all go to single sex schools or something? We're the same species for goodness sake. Treat us like you would a guy friend (well, maybe skip the rude jokes) and we'll be friends with you. Well, I would anyway, even if all those other silly private school girls out there won't and think every guy she meets is a potential bf.

Which bit? But I'm serious about getting involved. Otherwise you won't meet people. And that's what makes uni >>>> high school. You could study anything anywhere (hell, even reading Wiki would probably be good enough!) but where are you gonna meet interesting people? Fulltime work? Good luck with that!

But I'm naturally shy. Which is paradoxical because if you get me in my comfort zone - I'm going to be the one talking the most. <_<

See, this is what happens if you're born eccentric.

hey all I'm freely acknowledging here that I'm not as proficient as all of you are in meeting and greeting new people and making friends of them, especially if they're of the opposite gender. I am seriously lacking in this particular department, which is why I posted this thread with this particular topic. I seriously need some advice here.

So currently I have my eye out for opportunities in which I might make some friends who are chicks. I'll try to include myself in different social groups. But I would also prefer to meet girls on my own terms and in situations brought about by my own initiative. I'm looking catch a girl who's sitting alone somewhere so that I might approach her and start talking to her in an attempt to befriend her. And then to cap it off I'll probably seat myself next to or near her in the lecture hall and then ask her out for coffee or join her for lunch later on .
BUT
.........
This is exactly the kind of guys I IGNORE and AVOID because it screams SLEAZY.

I wasn't going to quote this 3+ week old post, but someone else did so I'll run with it.

Being eccentric is not a good excuse. The solution however is alcohol - drink more and you'll talk to anyone.

But I'm only 17.

However, I did talk to tons of people at camp. I see them around campus. I wave at them now. I am happy soul =P
