The Magnetic Fields - The Wayward Bus/Distant Plastic Trees

I seriously think it starts and ends with two of the most beautiful songs ever made.

what do you think of this? I haven't found myself wanting to listen to it much at all since it came out. The songs sound good technically but I just thought it was missing something...

i like it quite a bit, but it does have a more transitional sound than anything else they've done. with all their other albums (solo/related projects included) i feel they've gone as far as they can go with that particular style/approach, but this one feels like they've polished songs that should be left messy and open-ended (having seen them play them live last year, where everything blended into one big piece makes this more apparent). so yeah, something's missing. but even a bit of incompleteness with them puts them above most bands. gosh i <3 them.

Yeah, to me songs like Derek and Cuckoo could sound way crazier than they actually do on the album. The studio-ness of it isn't all bad - I thought Safer was one of the best songs they've released.

And ahh, I was so pissed when I missed their show here, it was the night before not one but two of my HSC exams!

Die todliche Doris - Kinderringellreihen Fur Wahren Toren des Grals

It's a compilation album and it's pretty much the only one that was available on slsk at the time. It's really strange, occasionally catchy early industrial music, and the cover of Warm Leatherette caught me off-gaurd.
