We've no longer a need for a day that glorifies war and shows how we sent thousands of our youth to die in vain in a British-led war.

We have Armistice day, a day to mourn the dead and to maintain that we never go to war again.

We shut down shops and cease trading on ANZAC day out of a sign of respect, when only free trade and mutual interdependence can make sure we never slip into a global conflict again.

This holiday is jingoistic, militaristic and out of step with the civilized world. We should not promote it or glorify it.

Again, how you interpret it is a matter of perspective. I can see how it exists to recognise the suffering of those who fought on all fronts in WW1, and to remember those who died, but not to question the circumstances under which they died

The nefarious undertone of ANZAC day is one of nationalist sentiment, one that is not present in Armistice day. I think grace, civility and a spirit of interdependence would lead us to remember and commemorate the war dead as a global community, not to single out the losses or soldiers of any one country on any one particular day. Nationalistic and jingoistic divisions are particularly pernicious and dangerous ones, and for this reason alone I will always hold Armistice day as a solemn recognition of the horror of war and the global toll as a consequence, over recognising the losses of two [maybe three if there's a cursory reference to Turkey] countries.

I just find the message of "never again" to be far more powerful than "lest we forget"

The average person isn't really cognitively equipped to make the above distinction between ANZAC and Remembrance days. Instead they NEED an anzac day to strengthen a national identity, without which motivations for things like altruism would be greatly decreased.
