Way to not substantiate that claim there.Phanatical said:Nevertheless, Simon's campaign is using MUCH less paper than any of the other candidates

Say one of the lefties convinces Howard to drop VSU.
So now we keep the political representation body that enfranchises only those it views as having been disenfranchised in the past. We are just creating new minorities.
The entire concept of a majority granting executive authority to any one person or group is screwed anyway.
Perhaps a system based on the principles of peer review would serve better?
The University's powers and actions are strictly monitored by a board, which is 1/4 Usyd administration, 1/4 academics and 1/2 students and can serve as an appeals body.
Decided entirely at random each year (which is done by auditors or some similar group).
That way, everyone is represented equally (by not being represented at all).
All we need is a system of neutral conciliation & arbitration being funded.
Clubs and socs etc can draw their own funding.
Protests really have nothing to do with being a member of the union..you either choose to attend or you don't. They could apply for class exemption to this new body.
Hey, it wasn't me that brought it up. I just don't think Phanatical has grounds to say Simon's using "MUCH less paper than any of the other candidates", when he has in fact instituted an extensive postering and leafleting campaign, and there are several candidates (Ben Bartlett, Steven Flew, Patrick Burns) who have done neither.Rorix said:I'll let Simon know that we are requesting an audit of his paper expense information.
Glad to see we are discussing the union election on such a sophisticated policy level.
Ben Bartlett has a few posters up in Carslaw, Patrick Burns has those George Bush ones, not as extensive, but yeah. I don't think anyone could say, though, that Simon has more posters up than Angus and Katy.Techie said:Hey, it wasn't me that brought it up. I know. Both of your statements are true, and that's why I didn't ever say they weren't. I didn't say Ben / Patrick hadn't done any postering, I said they hadn't "instituted extensive campaigns" like Simon has. And I also never said that he had done more postering than Angus or Katy. My point was simply to refute Phanatical's portrayal of Simon as some uber-green candidate who had used less paper than (and this is crucial) "EVERY other candidate", which was simply not the case. But Rorix is right, this is a pretty banal level to be taking the discussion too.withoutaface said:Ben Bartlett has a few posters up in Carslaw, Patrick Burns has those George Bush ones, not as extensive, but yeah. Nominations from a certain area of the uni just means you have a few friends in that degree imo.ujuphleg said:Hey waffy, were you outside Carslaw on Thursday wearing a Simon Fontana t-shirt?
EDIT: I've just read the last couple of posts and yes, you were.
On another, somewhat related note, the best place to look for Information about the Union Board Elections would be the "Candiature 2005 - The 2005 USU Board Election Candiates" booklet. In there, its outlined what positions the person has held and currently holds, what degree their doing, who nominated them and what they're policy stances are in a paragraph.
EDIT EDIT: Oh and Phanatical, whilst your beloved Simon may have some ideas about how to improve representation at the Con, from what I can see its Angus, Lauren and John that have had the nominations from the Con.
:uhhuh: This can also be accessed online.ujuphleg said:On another, somewhat related note, the best place to look for Information about the Union Board Elections would be the "Candiature 2005 - The 2005 USU Board Election Candiates" booklet. Have you tried the second level of the Mechanical Engineering Building? The PNR courtyard? the third level of the Link Lab?yulia said:3) When I'm on my way to the Mechanical Engineering rooms, I'm not going to go down to Carslaw to use the toilet, I'm going to go through Wentworth and use there's.
Wow, so many engineering toilets I didn't know existed (save the PNR ones). And yulia I was referring to Broadway as an option for protest day when everything else was (supposed) to be closed, rather than a permanent alternative, sorry if it was a bit ambiguous.Xayma said:Have you tried the second level of the Mechanical Engineering Building? Also there is no precedent for the unions to collapse. The WA model was much tougher on unions then the federal one (I actually prefer the Federal model, albeit I wish the fines were much heavier).
