It's awful. The ones at Redesdale and Bendigo are maybe 15 km from where I grew up. I wouldn't be suprised if the death toll does rise to not far from Ash Wednesday.

In case you thought I was Victorian, I'm not. I'm from New South Wales. Latest news sources say 36 people have so far been confirmed dead. Some sources vary between this and 50.

Edit: Meanwhile over 60% of Queensland is flooded from cyclones and residents are being warned to be careful of crocodiles in urban areas, which the government has set up another relief find for.
