The due date for uni fees was March 3 (last Friday). I paid this morning (Sunday March 5) for the upfront amt with the liability calculated to include the 20% discount. When my payment is processed, I assume that my student liability for sem1 2006 will be down to $0.00 as per the myUNSW a/c.

As I paid after the due date, could someone pls confirm that I will be ONLY be paying the upfront amt with 20% discount for sem 1 2006 uni fees. Ie, I won't need to pay any more or have any debt carried over to next sem or as a HECS loan.

Senior,

As today is way before the HECS cenus date, what you paid deducted from the Uni Activity Fees will be your Subject's fee which most likely have the 20% discount on it.

I have not heard about 20% discount on the Uni Activity Fees,

Regards,
N00b.

Yeah, I'll clarify. I mean I paid for everything - activity fees + student contribution. I'm just concerned that I won't receive the 20% discount since I paid upfront for my student contribution (HECS) fees after the payment date March 3.

So why is the payment date listed as March 3 on the myUNSW a/c fee statement?

Perhaps the 20% discount does indeed only applies to payment before 3rd of March, but what if I decided to drop a subject between now and end of month? I thought it would be sensible to pay what you are study (as long as it is before census date)....

The payment system is very delayed, I wouldn't worry too much if you paid a day or more after the due date.

Yeah, that's true. Maybe the payment date is only for the activity fees (which is separate from the student contribution and its associated 20% discount)?

What are the penalties if you dont pay ur activity fees?

20% discount only refers to upfront HECS-HELPS amount. The activity fee is due on the 3rd March, and the HECS-HELP census date is the end of the month.

As for the activity fees, I'm not sure what happens now, with the abolishment of the fees in S2. Previously, if you had a debt, you could not graduate till you cleared your debt through the Treasury!

I'm sure that UNSW will chase up any outstanding S1 fees, regardless of VSU
I paid yesterday, since I had the $$ - I've always paid the fees AFTER the exam period (to get my exam results/re-enrol), and nothing happened to me - you just couldnt see your academic transcript.

I understand that you can pay the student fees later, but if paying Study Fees (the one for each subjects) after the student fees deadline but before HECS census date, will the 20% discount ON THE HECS payment still applies?

gman03: Yes. Payment must be made before the Census date, to get the 20% discount. Please note that the student fees and HECS-HELP are two totally different things, but that will be clearer in the future when they no longer collect SAF(Student Activity Fees).

On topic, I just recieved this email:rofl: :
This is an important message from UNSW Student Services. Please read these instructions carefully.

Dear Student

At close of business on Thursday 16 March, 2006, University records indicate that your Student Activity fee liability had not been paid. Payment was due on 3 March, 2006.

If you have paid recently this will be recorded on the next fee statement issued.

If you have not made arrangements for payment please do so immediately.
Please note: Student Activity Fees are payable for Semester 1 2006. Student Activity fees cannot be deferred under HECS HELP or FEE-HELP.

Your fee statement and payment options for Semester 1, 2006 are available online at https://my.unsw.edu.au/portal/

If a third party is involved in the payment of your fees, eg parent, guardian or sponsor, please ensure you have provided payment information to them as UNSW cannot provide this information on your behalf.

If you have any difficulties in viewing your fee statement please contact Student Central on 9385 8500 to request assistance.

Looks like I'll have to fix it up, theres been a mix-up, my student fees got credited towards HECS instead.
