first off you are going to want to start of with your intro which will decide your route of the question and your answer, this means choosing a side on this question.
1. yes it was a totalitarian society!
2. no it wasn't a totalitarian society!
3. this is why and this is why it is and isn't a totalitarian society!
there are others but sadly i forgot about them :/ however these are the primary ones.
now the one i chose was 1 simply because i know it is easier to talk about Hitlers dictatorship over Germany however it will greatly help if you include the faults too! such as his inhibition to do paper work and such and rely heavily on his generals and allies for future development (eg. how it wasn't Hitlers true intention to send the Jews to gas/furnace chambers but one of his assistants) and how he wasn't as strict as most historians let on, how it was only gossip that kept the people in line, not the SS itself. i have power points which i can copy onto here for you which show links for and against totalitarianism in Nazi Germany which i'll post tomorrow due to study hindering me
