That is complete and utter bullshit, there are truckloads of completely apolitical people who support VSU.

And if I was supporting VSU only to crush political movements why would I be supporting the full scale model rather than the ALP's "compromise" model?

At the risk of saying something obvious because I haven't trawled through most of this thread:

There are also lots of apolitical people who are against VSU, you couldn't have rallies with thousands of people if only the members of the Labor Club and Socialist Alternative were showing up. And don't say it was just free food, we have had rallies of similarly significant size with no gimmicks at all

And you might support full VSU to crush political movements because you know what happened in Victoria.

I never said that there weren't apolitical people who supported CSU, I merely refuted the assertion that VSU is only supported by a bunch of extremist Young Libs.

Is this the same university administration that Janda and co always whinge about because they can never do anything right? Why is their judgement on this matter any different to, for example, the recent decision to hire private security, much to Rose Jackson's disgust?

their stance against VSU is telling, because they are not ideologically positioned to the 'left'. they believe that it will negatively affect the universities.

They are ideologically predisposed to go for the option which will in all likelyhood be the most cost effective for them. If VSU comes in there is a chance that a small number of essential services may have to be provided by the university administration, thereby costing them money. Same deal with the private security, and alleged larger tute groups, falling standards etc.

The reason alot of teachers, uni accademics etc hate it is probably because;
- The honestly think it'll be worse off.
- They are from the left.
- They have close contact with the unions and the union movement at university.
