Are you allowed to get your student card during O-Week? How do they handle the thousands of students queueing for their cards?....it must take days to get it all done.
Yes you are allowed BUT DO NOT GET IT DURING O WEEK!!!!! The Queue will take you one hour.

If possible get it the week before o-week. Technically you can get it after mid-january.

You should have obtained a concession card from your high school last year which valid to end of feb.

Reminder: you need to have your student card with you when you use the travelpass, not just when buying the damn pass. If you don't have your card with you, youi must pay adult fee.

Note: Anticipate the Cityrail revenue unit to check your card + ticket in the first 3 weeks. Almost one in every bus will be fined.. (although from observation out of 10 people I saw getting fined over the past year, 0.00% of them are caucasian. Just a thought ;))

I already have a T-card, do I just get it "topped up"?
I was under the impression Tcards are only for school students...I've never seen any of the Sydney Buses on the uni routes have Tcard readers either, but then again I haven't been on a bus for almost 2 sessions now.

You can get it during O-week, but I suggest you do it earlier since thousands of other 1st years and returning students will be doing the same (people go in for O week and say "oh I might as well get my student card"). The earlier you get it the sooner you can flash it at your friends waiting in the queue.

All student cards are made on the spot and only takes a couple of minutes, its only waiting in the queue that takes time.

Hehe :p - I thought azns would be more careful than that.

So do you reckon I should take a trip to the uni on the Thurs or Fri before O-Week and get my student card? Hopefully they give it to me, or else I'll be making a 1 hour trip for nothing lol

You have to pay for uni transport? I thought we got bus passes.. :S
hahaha. That's so cute

Nah, actually that's what I believed before I started uni. But no, we're big kids at uni and they make us pay. But it turns out quite cheap if you buy a student travelpass. I save a quite a lot money by catching public transport instead of driving to uni each day.

Sometimes the people are dodgy, or sometimes they just haven't got their cards yet.

Before you go in, just make sure you are already enrolled in myUNSW (for a couple of days at least, the systems at e-Spot and myUNSW are separate and aren't live sync-ed). And remember to bring some sort of photo ID (x2 to be safe) with you as well.

Yep...when you're walking up the main walkway, the Red Centre is on your right, e-Spot is there as well - but don't worry, its on your right hand side and you won't miss it when you're walking up.

Err.... unless you have been there it is hard to tell you.

Basically it is in middle campus, under the bridge connecting the East and West Wing of Red Centre.

For other people: check out nancy's guide to unsw for newbie

Hmm...yea :p
I went to the Red Centre before on Open Day, but I have no idea what the East and West Wing are lol. I guess there won't be that many people around a week before O-Week so I shouldn't be in too much of a rush anyway...

Ah, West Wing is the 'Built Environment' building, where there are glass sliding doors and full-size glass panels.

East Wing is where the maths people's are. It is like caved with bricks. There is a corridor outside East Wing where people smokes. Generally the lecturer walked out of that building is much, say less young, then people walking out of 'Built Environment' building.

Remind you that the side near anzac pde is West and the uphill side is East.

There is a bridge (sort of, like cat walk bridge where you can stare at people undi3 :p) between these buildings. Underneath the bridge is E-spot. There is also a phone booth near e-spot.

E-spot is sooooo obvious during O-week... it is where the queue ends.

LATE EDIT:

After a shower I realised I made a mistake.

E-spot is under the bridge between Built Environment Building and West Wing of Red Centre (buildings with maths class room)

East Wing is the one with sliding doors and is responsible for international students.

West Wing =/= Built Environment Building..

Sorry for misinforming people.

Yea, I know of the Built Environment thingo coz I was looking for a lecture in one of the theatres hidden away next to it...and I got lost lol

I'll probably head over there before O-Week to avoid the queue :)

Don't worry haboozin. You can catch the train with me :p, although I'm somewhat closer to the city...I think most 1st years are going to be in the same boat as us.

I declined the ISM co-op in the end and took another UNSW scholarship. I was reluctant to give up the IT, but hopefully other opportunities for work experience will pop up later on.

You'll be in different parts of the uni for BIT...for most things as a matter of fact. Usually its not an option to park near where you'll be, its more like you'll go for the first parking spot you can get.

Unless you're really early <8am, or late >10am then finding parks close to uni will be hard. Read Nancy's student guide or search the forum for discussions on parking...

I seriously think you should just buy a travelpass and just drive to hornsby station and train it to Central. You'll save so much time and money
