UNSW "bonus" points ???? (1 Viewer)

OK, apparently UNSW is feeling either generous or money-hungry but they introduced this concept of bonus points (idk when). I'm a bit sceptical and confused over this issue, so hopefully you guys can help me out.
Do the bonus points add towards ATAR? and are there limitations?

Please tell me if i'm wrong, because this sounds stupid and more importantly, I'm an absolute idiot about this stuff.

You can effectively gain up to 5 'bonus' points, so basically an ATAR of 90 will get boosted to a 95 for a certain course. I want to get to a B-Commerce/B-Science (advanced maths) course (96.4 cut-off , mine is 95.75 atm) and the site says (http://www.unsw.edu.au/domestic-undergraduate/hsc-plus) I can collect 1 bonus point if I get E4 for ext 1 maths (very hard but not impossible) and 2 bonus points for a band 5/6 English and 1 bonus point for just a band 4 English...

Since most people with an ATAR of 95+ tend to get at least band 4+ for their English, is the cut-off realistically more like 95.4? Extremely dodgy...

EDIT: Are 'bonus' points automatically added or do you have to apply for them?

Bonus points are automatic. You're confusing yourself.

Any bonus points you get are added to your ATAR - with respect to whatever uni gives you those bonus points.

No, it doesn't work like this. The cutoff is determined each year - the previous year's cutoff isn't used to determine the new cutoff, it just indicates what the cutoff might be for this year.

What is dodgy about it, let alone "extremely dodgy"?

You're over-thinking this a lot.

There's nothing dodgy about the bonus-point scheme at all which, by the way, has been around for a while.
As someone already said, bonus points are awarded automatically and dont need to be applied for.

And no, the cut-off wouldnt be "realistically 95.4" or anything like that. Whatever the cut-off point they determine is the final cut-off point. They dont say the cut-off is one thing, when really its another. There'd be absolutely no point in doing that whatsoever.

I have a question too: Compare two people, one requires bonus points to get into the course, the other doesn't require any bonus points. Does the person who doesn't require the bonus get priority into the course?

If they have the same 'entrance rank', so like... 95 ATAR and 90 ATAR with 5 bonus poinst, they are equal.

I must stress that bonus points are at the discretion of each uni - they all have different systems.

Unless they are the 'all round' ones which include EAS etc.

like for example UNSW, the bonus points + the atar are seen as just one figure right?

I thought bonus marks were not added to ur legit atar
But just for the uni which gives u these bonus markd?? So getting bonus 5 markd for unsw to get 95
Usyd still sees ur atar as 90?

Yes, subject bonus points are done by each uni, and are 'seen' as part of your atar but your atar is not literally changed. So someone with 95 straight out and someone with 90 and 5 bonus points would be seen as completely equal at unsw, and both would get into the course if the cutoff was say 94.5. However USYD would still see your atar as 90 unless they added bonus points of their own

Can the AAA be combined with subject bonus points? For example, 3 points for AAA, and say 2 for e4 ext1 and 2 for e4 in ext2 for an engineering course to give a total of:

7 points?
