I tihnk almost everyone will agree that the union is good for providing public facilities, even for things like childcare which may be of limited use.
What people do not want is political views being supported with these views, as is currently the case. UTS union even advertised on enrollement as some of the good things they did were:
"Removed sexist advertising from around the university"? I mean really, as long as it's abiding by applicable Australia laws, who are they to say it's removed? Anyway, that wasn't nearly as frivelous as:
"Lobbied to stop pro-war sentiments being presented in classes" I mean what the hell is this about? I'm sure the lec/tuts weren't presenting it as the only correct point of view, only one of many.
The union seems to be mainly left wing feminists out to spend alot of money on what THEY think is right, under the guise that this is what ALL students feel. There should be total seperation of political views and facilities.
The fees could be halved without this useless crap and I don't think anyone would have a problem with it then.
