Just do a regular comp sci or software engineering degre and pick subjects (AI, animation, etc) that are likely to steer you towards it.

Please check out Swinburne game programming course. My friend is doing this one and they loving it. Plus, the campus is near Chapel street so you can enjoy "urban" life style after school :)

Swinburne game programming course: Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology (Games Development) at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia (Hawthorn campus)

Bachelor of Design (Multimedia Design) at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne, Australia

I'm currently doing games technology at CSU, Bathurst. It's actually a top of the line course, regardless of your thoughts of CSU. Similar to the way in which CSU is top of Australia for Journalism.

I'm enrolled in that course too and I'll give you a few details:
* 4 year course
* UAI cut-off = 70
* specialises in C++ programming language
* no prior knowledge in programming is assumed
* in the 4th year you can either do honours or go on work experience for a year with an actual game designer
* those people who go the 'work experience' route are often invited to stay on with the designers that employ them

In short, it's a top-notch course that can potentially get you employed straight out of uni; an option definitely worth considering.
