Yo, I've got a stack of questions...sorry about that...but I just wanna ask:
My UAI is around 92...is it possible to get into pharm or physio or med?
How would I transfer from a course? I don't know the specifics...

Did a bit of research on possible courses...and...occupational therapy's UAI cut off is around 80 and with a lil research on this career, there's plenty of jobs and pretty good salaries...Higher than being a physio in fact (this was what a website told me...I don't know whether it's true). But how the hell can that happen when a physio has a higher UAI cut off?!? WTH...

Also, some friend wanted to do a course in medical radiation science...but their mum commented about the radiation 'risk' and things like 'you're gonna get cancer and die'....could radiation be a risk factor then?

Okay, I sound totally ignorant...but I'm pretty confused...so anybody with answers?

With that UAI you definately won't get into med, and i wouldn't think you'd get pharm or physio but I'm not sure.
To transfer you just apply through UAC like school leavers, they take into account your UAI and uni marks, or in some cases just your uni marks - the transfers section has info on converting GPA to a selection rank.
And the UAI for physio is just higher because of supply and demand, this doesn't reflect course quality or graduate salaries

The thing about physio is you dont get too much working in a hospital or something but if u have ur own buisness or work for a sports team u will get heaps.

Also i have my own question, what is the health sciences campus like i get the feeling it is a bit gay does anyone have any experience with it or know anyone that went there.

Id just like to add, dont choose a course just based on how much money you are going to earn when you finish it, but rather choose one you will enjoy, and have a passion for the subjects in it - uni, and life, will be much more fun that way

You will need to have at least a UAI of 95 if you wish to be considered for transferring into UNSW Med after 1 year at uni (plus a very good WAM/GPA).

If you are keen on Pharm or Physio, try do a sicence degree, then transfer at the end of first year. You will need at least a Credit average (65+) to be considered.

You will need to have at least a UAI of 95 if you wish to be considered for transferring into UNSW Med after 1 year at uni (plus a very good WAM/GPA).

But I don't have a UAI of 95...does that mean I have no hope of transferring? =_=
So confused...and ye, disappointed...

You will be able to transfer after 1 year of full time study:

For UWS medicine you just need a credit average after 1 year OR a UAI of 95+ (So since you didn't meet the second you can still aim for the first next year and you won't need your past UAI at all), plus a very high UMAT score.

At UNCLE, you need "close to a credit average" (according to their information PDF), plus a very high UMAT score.

(Someone else posted UNSW info above, but It might be easier to get into UWS or UNCLE provided you get that UMAT score!)

So yes there is still a chance you can do medicine in 2010! Did you take the UMAT this year? It is harder than the practice books will lead you to believe .

OMG EVERYONE IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT UNIVERSITY at SYDNEY in particular CUMBO Email a student - START - The University of Sydney Check this site out and I can personally answer all your questions...Guys and girls i'm a current student there and I organise all the parties and will probably talk at your orientation as well...

one last thing get the transfer thing out of your head lol people if you can't get into physio do bachelor of health science and your guaranteed entry into masters of physio and the UAI for Health science is 80.1!!!
long story short
Physio = 4yr undergraduate degree Bahelor of health/Master of Phsyio = 5 years

That goes for OT, speech, sport science and anything else in health faculty plus you earn more money when you leave and its only 1 more year at uni!!

Also we have an orientation camp for 1st year students its a great way to meet people and its also one big party

you can try pharmacy at CSU or
do 1yr of study and maintain a distinction average which allows you to transfer to pharm usyd

OR like many ppl do, apply for graduate entry, UAI is no longer a criteria

But how the hell can that happen when a physio has a higher UAI cut off?!? WTH...

since when did the uai cut-off correlate to salary wise?

As long as they enjoy it, the actual reason is not an issue. eg.Some ppl like teaching because of the holiday.

Dear Fire Jade,
No question is a silly question, so as Leith said, (HI LEITH!!!!) Ask questions to your life's content! as the more you ask, the more you know, the more you will understand and the more at ease you will be.

So first thing. CALM DOWN.

Secondly, you seem as though you are at a fork road and a total ball of confusion as to what you want to do with life.
So my suggestion to you, DO SOMETHING BROAD.
The health Science department at Sydney Uni is absolutely fantastic when it comes to flexibility.

You can start with the Bachelor of Health science - the most general one.
You will do fairly general subjects inline with all the other health sciences for the first year.
You go, relax, meet some friends, talk to some current students, talk to some graduated students, feel the vibe, enjoy first year.
You can also discuss options with your parents as you learn more info, you can also find out what the day to day life of a OT/physio/radiographer etc is, and decide later what you might want to do

and then after one year, you can specifically enrol into something more specific.
Or you can continue along picking abit of this, a bit of that. meanwhile the health science field is changing faster than paris Hilton's outfits, you can keep your opportunities open.
During your degree, you can do some work placement, and find our for sure what you are interested in.
At the end of your 3 years, you can either use it as a pathway to a specialisation OR you can fast track to a masters degree.

Then you will have your specialisation. OR a masters! how awesome is that!

In truth, how do you know at 18 years old what you want to do for the rest of your life?? so don't stress.
take it one step at a time and explore all the avenues along the way.

UAI of 92 will get you Pharmacy at CSU Orange and Wagga, no worries.

It'll also get you into denistry at CSU if you wanted to try and transfer after first year.

NSW Health is DESPERATE for Physios AND OT's, and whilst Physios don't get paid as much as they would in private practice, OT's make a bit.

Thanks Winey for your advice. I'm sorta calming down. Especially when I learnt about the. Flexible Entry Program at USYD. Ha! ^^ I just have this absurd fear that the UAI cut off for what I want will shoot up...and....bye bye to the course I'm interested in...
