What underlying assumptions about belonging would be present in The Matrix (first one). The only assumption I've been able to figure out so far is that Neo is uncomfortable in the "dreamworld" and only really starts to belong once he's freed. If this is wrong or I've missed something please reply any help would be appreciated.

It depends, underlying assumptions that the characters have or that the audience has?

For the characters-> ~The agents assume that in order to belong to their own made-up society the characters must conform and be ignorant to the truth.
~Neo assumes that he belongs to this society, despite feeling some sort of disharmony within it.

ahh thanks heaps. I'm actually looking for both the views of the audience and the characters.
