James Cook University does not use umat, you've still got hope for that. Applications close on the 30th of September. http://cms.jcu.edu.au/courses/JCUDEV_013622

Hey guy's i got in the 72nd percentile range but I come from a very rural region in Victoria (1,300 people), I've applied for Monash bonded, because I can't get enough of watching cows in a paddock all day. What do you think of my chances? I've also applied to Tassie and pretty much everywhere else, including JCU, which doesn't use the UMAT.
Be sure to apply to all uni's, they all have different emphasis' on rural students. It depends on your rurality rating, postcode, etc.

I'd think your chances are pretty good especially if you get a uai in the low to mid 90's.

Yeah, thanks mate I've applied for everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Predicted ENTER was about 98.5 or something like that so heopfully helps me out a bit. I have a rural rating of 5 out of 7 which is pretty high, well at least it should be, you'd understand if you lived here.

kind of surprised really, my parents kind of forced me to do it and i didnt have prep.

people here DID REALLY REALLY WELL (seriously, well done guys, you're amazing)
but i kind of don't know what to think about 93...and lately i HAVE been thinking about med.
but i didnt get called for an interview by unsw
i wonder what kind of uai i need to get called when they offer the next round interviews for unsw?

UNSW: about 98.5+, depends on this years cohort, esp interstaters, etc.

Anything above 90 is exceptional, it would get you quite a few offers.

Overall: 70
Percentile 99

Didn't get unsw interview. Why? Because my principal forgot to circle my uai estimate.........................................(I rang up unsw med)

And I agree with Shedow, those tutoring courses don't do crap....I only did 3 of the face2face practice papers, which I got off my friend. All you need to do is to get a few past papers off someone else just to get used to the format.

Only a few uni's accept med transfers and only for exceptional circumstances such as long term degrading ill-health in the immediate family back home, etc.

bebo2: don't dispair, you should get a late round interview if your uai is up to scratch you are not disadvantaged at all for a late round interview.

'Are you in a position of veritable authority?', that was really all to it.
Sue me

I have never mentored people. Only given pretty general advice, and facts based on what is known, etc.

I'm a student with plenty of connects. I'm currently doing a B. Sc (adv). I wrote alot of the stuff on www.medstudentsonline.com in the university guides, etc.

I'm also considering writing a second edition book for prospective med students. Based on what Patrick Mackerras wrote, he too was a Science Advanced student, who write stuff for prospective med students in 1999.

Yeah we looked at your results obviously section 1 was a mistake being 108. When the highest recorded score was 96, that is why your post was removed.
I can understand your skepticism, especially given that it was my first post on this site, but i can assure you those results are genuine. I am well aware that this is far from absolute proof, given the ease of editing images nowdays, but I would ask you to consider whether someone would go to all this hassle to post fake results on a website anonymously behind an alias. Image of my results is attached (if I managed to do so correctly).

As I said in my original post, I'm obviously ecstatic to get such a good mark, especially considering I did no preparation at all, but I feel somewhat guilty given that i have no intention of doing any course which requires the UMAT and therefore robbed someone who needed it of a place.

For those who do not wish to look at the image, the marks for each section were 108, 61, 82. For an overall score of 84 and in the 100th percentile

You must have topped or near topping it, i've only ever seen a 102 once and that was 3 years ago with the old test. I thought they had scaled it down after they revised it.

My sincere, apologies.

The reason why i removed yours also is that you posted after a troll 'Marinababy' who is defaming medentry and promoting icarus.

How did you find section during the test, considering no preparation. Are you a fast reader?

I've always been a relatively fast reader, but going into the test I had heard from others that section one was very long. Accordingly I rushed through it - too fast actually - so I had to go back at the end to my first few questions which I had only skim read.

Could anyone please tell me:
1. If I put medicine as number 2 on my preferences, will I still be considered for an interview?

2. If I do well in the interview and get the enter I need, (and med is still number 2) can I decline the offer and accept my first preference? Will I even get an offer?

3. Also, how do I figure out if I really want to do med? (I have a careers advisor who doesn't really understand med and science courses) The only thing I'm kinda worried about is having to deal with patients- I have great people skills, it just I'm not sure if I'd enjoy it? I originally decided on doing post-grad studies in either a biological science or sociology after my degree.

Sorry about all the questions. I got a higher UMAT than expected and now I'm feeling confused about career choices and uni

Naturally fast reader, or did you learn to speed read?

Yeah, out of a dozen other students with 100% no one comes close, second highest section 1 score that i've seen is 89.

sci.girl: You should recieve multiple interview offers if your uai is up-to-scratch. Order in UAC preferences doesn't really matter but I was told that they should be in the top four of your preferences(order still plays no part as the uni's which have recieved applications from you must either offer you an interview or reject you. You will recieve offers early next year and you should be given time to accept or decline various offers.

I'd suggest you look into medicine generally and speak to any doctors you know, etc, try to get some work experience after the hsc. But you should understand medicine is usually a life long career of learning. It takes 11+ years of learning just to specialise in a field. If you have your heart set out for somethine else, i'd think long and hard about doing medicne.

If you still can't make up a mind when you recieve an offer, i'd think about accepting and defering an offer. Then take up gap year to help you explore what you want to do in life.

shaon0: The marks in umat are scalled and moderated each year as it is also determined on the entire co-hort, but the highest mark i have heard of a few years ago is about 284 with the old umat. Highest i heard of last year was about 276ish. Still anything over 90% is exceptional.

Naturally fast, parents started me reading early and I've always loved books so I just got a lot of practice I suppse. Have been tempted to try speed reading at times but never actually given it a shot.
